Overview and Thoughts
I’ll start off this year’s haunted house photo tours with the unique ‘local’ house. The park has the reputation of making ordinary things scary in these locally themed productions – the Siloso Gateway Block 50 (HHN5) comes to mind. This Chalet tries to bring back the same effect, with much success in several scenes.
For the international readers: chalets in Singapore are like budget resort buildings that most Singaporean teenagers have been to, usually for parties or sleepovers with friends or classmates. Staying up late to share ghost stories or contact spirits (for some reason) are some common activities. For my time it has advanced to horror movie marathons. Of course, there’s always unexplained things happening, and sometimes the mysteries don’t stop until dawn.
There are two things I particularly enjoy about this house: First, is that we get to explore seemingly mundane scenes with ‘invisible’ ghosts, and then get to ‘revisit’ the earlier rooms with the ghosts and true horrors fully materialised. Second, is the use of unusual effects, such as the advancing door (using lighted scrim panels), UV-reactive strobe corridor, as well as the final stunt room where an entire wall drops.
Like all haunted houses, this chalet is best experienced alone for the most unsettling and scariest experience. You will have to be among the first, or the last, guests entering this haunted chalet for maximum effect.
Five teenagers have never checked out of the ‘Block E’ chalet at the end of Frangipani Road. Feeling adventurous in the middle of the night, you decide to go beyond the police tape and explore the abandoned chalet building.
It looks abandoned, but you hear faint sounds, clearly someone is still around. As you shine light to see better around the room, furniture starts to move on its own.
On the other side of the room, a coin slides on a table. The teenagers must have been playing the Spirit Coin game on a makeshift Ouija board.
Walking around the building, you start to hear ghostly wails, and spirits slowly start to manifest.
You find a creepy shadow in the bathroom – the curtain slowly pulls away. There was no one behind.
As you walk closer, a langsuir bursts out of the showers – swiping her claws at you.
Rushing away, you find yourself in a blacked out corridor – you have gone through a portal and are now between the walls, and between two worlds. A door glows in front of you, and quickly advances towards you.
You are back in the living room – but everything looks distorted and doused in green.
A gigantic Hantu Gala lunges towards you.
You run back to the bedroom – now filled with haunting apparitions of a long-haired woman.
The kitchen stirs, now with appliances going crazy. More items have started floating.
Barely avoiding the troubling ghosts haunting the kitchen, you finally make your way out.
It’s a bloodbath outside the building.
The langsuir is behind the violent attacks, but you notice that there are more ghosts emerging from the shadows.
Running past them, you go around the fenced up area and end up back indoors.
The walls have started to break apart, with letters and words flashing on the fragments.
The path forward leads to a boundless realm with piercing lights. All of a sudden, a langsuir charges towards you.
You barely dodge her claws and sprint towards the nearest way out of this haunted chalet. The fates of the missing teenagers remain a mystery.

Halloween Horror Nights
Wow this description of the haunted house is good. But what is the alien thing at the start of the house suppose to be? And the cockroach scare actor? Those two seems out of place.
Can’t wait for the twisted university, was so confused why there’s a sudden change of environment, disrupting the whole flow.
Thanks dejiki!
I am not sure about the cockroach room, but the ‘alien’-like creatures are most likely a form of Toyol.
I went yesterday and it’s my 6th year. For the 1st time, I was unable to finish all house, didnt get to go to The Curse of the Naga and Spirit Dolls. Always gone for non peak days, not because I wanted to save the money but because crowd usually thins towards closing time when people leave due to work/school the next day. Not the case this or last year. Seriously, the scariest thing yesterday were the waiting times. 180 minutes? And I usually go on a last stride towards closing time for the house, usually get in the chance to go alone and on several occassions being the last person to go in, the Stranger Things house and the Pontianak were 2 that I managed to go in alone with me being the last one for Stranger Things. No chance yesterday though. At 1225 it was still a parade going into the Chalet house, which renders it boring IMO. And there was no extension of hours like last year despite there being so many people at the park last night. Very disappointing to be honest. Look I’m going to have to fork out again to make the trip down from Malaysia in order to at least get to finish the other 2 houses.
Last year’s attendance showed that non-peak nights are actually far more crowded than peak nights – reason being that the tickets are cheaper, especially for students. But yes, this year there has been no extension of event hours so far, even when the queues remain stable at over 100 mins towards the end of park hours.
Is I was to repeat, should I go for a peak night? I went to guest services before I left yesterday and they said peak nights are just as bad and suggested me the 20th. What do you guys reckon?
I would suggest visiting on a Saturday night. First reason being you already have an extra hour as Peak nights end at 1:30AM.
For the past three Saturdays (28/9, 5/10, 12/10), the crowds start to thin after 11:30PM. At around 12:30AM most of the queues were 30 mins or less. At 1AM, most of the houses 0 to 5 minutes wait. At some houses, you can even ask the crew to help pace out the people in front/ behind so that you can ‘enter alone’. This has been done by myself and other readers on 5/10 and 12/10).
20/10 is a Non-Peak Sunday, which typically means more students. However, the local polytechnic academic term would’ve started then, which may reduce some attendance – but I doubt school would quell the crowds. Plus the event usually gets more popular towards the end of the season.
So yeah I went again yesterday. And you’re right, no thinning of crowds. At 12am waiting time display was 70 minuted for Naga so I decided to go to Hell House. Crowd wasn’t as bad as on the 10th but there still wasn’t thinning of crowd. Despite the many guest, again there are still no extension of hours and USS was more busy having their person going around peddling fastpasses with the person with the waiting time board going around the park. Kinda disappointing to be honest but maybe their business strategy. As mentioned, this is my 7th year since HHn3 and this was the only year I had to make the trip down from Malaysia twice to finish all 5 houses. Rest assured I’m definitely no longer going on a non peak day next year. Was planning to repeat either yesterday or Saturday but as I just got back from a business trip on Friday, was extremely tired so decided to go yesterday. Did 4 houses yesterday and managed to repeat Hell Block but the parade of people going in made it a bit boring. I do have to agree that it was probably the best house this year. That and The clown one. Squeezed in a repeat of Naga before closing and requested to be the last person to the staff. They allowed it but there was no pacing so I had staff behind me and the one I met along the way was asking me to quickly move it along as I tried to pace myself with the group in front of me. Guess they were looking forward to go back and all so dont really blame them. But yeah, definitely a peak day if I go again next year.
Its no mystery how they vanish they died
