Reality blurs with the supernatural at Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights 12, the region’s ultimate horror event! Discover the horrifying details in this HHN12 mega photo review, featuring first looks inside 4 haunted houses, 3 scare zones, 3 shows, and more.
Halloween Horror Nights 12 Mega Review by DEJIKI
Headlining this year’s event are the IP haunted houses, Netflix’s Sweet Home and Under The Castle – one being the world’s first and only adaptation of a popular monster-themed K-drama, while the other collaboration with Jackson Wang and TEAM WANG design created an expansive fortress never before seen in Singapore.
Universal Studios Singapore is also known for its unique and original haunted houses. This year, only the brave can survive the darkest and possibly scariest house – Singapore’s Most Haunted: The Killings. Cursed Scrolls: Dynasty of Darkness is a creative reimagining of Chinese mythology, with creative use of 3D glasses.
Three scare zones add on to your horrifying adventures at the theme park: Explore a cursed village brimming with abandoned objects and restless spirits, escape from blood-thirsty vampires (or join them), or even dance with the undead at a party that never dies. Three shows complete your night out – Dark Dreams at Pantages Hollywood Theater must not be missed. You get to finally meet the Dream Reaper as they shatter your reality.

HHN12 Haunted Houses review
Under The Castle by TEAM WANG design
Explore a world created by Jackson Wang and TEAM WANG design, in this unique experience where you can explore a haunted castle. The originally adorable characters, Spookie and Pumpkie, have taken a dark turn as Universal Studios Singapore brings a horror twist to the concept.
If you have been keeping up with TEAM WANG design’s comics (on the playful adventures of Pumpkie and Spookie), then you would know that the castle rarely opens, but when it does, tribute is demanded from the village. At HHN12, the castle has opened its gates, but those who have entered have not returned. It’s your time now to explore the cursed castle, and uncover its mysteries.
As you tour the castle’s great hall, armoury and gallery, the scares become more intense as the spaces become much darker and mysterious. Objects become increasingly possessed, and it’s clear the spirits lingering within the castle walls do not welcome visitors.
With wide corridors, and larger rooms, this house immediately feels very different from any other houses in Singapore. You even get to cross a drawbridge to enter the castle, and even the exit is rather special.

Netflix’s Sweet Home
Step right into the world of Netflix’s Sweet Home as you explore the ruined Green Home apartment building – now overrun with dangerous monsters and hostile survivors.
Iconic scenes and characters are carefully replicated in this world’s first and only haunted house based on the popular horror streaming series (which itself is an adaptation of a popular webtoon).
You will get to meet notable residents at Green Home, and even explore some iconic scenes, including the security room, lift lobby, Hyun-Su’s room, the minimart, and even the dangerous corridor where the Blind Monster will find you if you make too much noise – which you likely will.
Unlike last year’s All of Us Are Dead which felt like an entire season on fast-forward, the Sweet Home haunted house feels more complete: covering events from Season 1, and scenes from the early part of Season 2 (before the time skip) where you will uncover the fates of contract killer “Sang-Wook”, firefighter Yi-kyung, and the main protagonist Hyun-Su, with the latter breaking out from the research facility.
Still, I’d recommend that you at least watch Season 1 of Sweet Home before visiting the park for the best experience.

Cursed Scrolls: Dynasty of Darkness
Journey into a fantasy underworld inspired by Chinese mythology – one conjured by the evil ScrollMaster, a corrupt Qing scholar who wields the dark magic imbued in the ancient scrolls.
You are quickly banished into the ScrollMaster’s hellish world, where evil spirits are unshackled, free to capture and torment wandering souls. Harrowing encounters block your way as JiangShi breaks out of coffins, and you slip into another dimension where the fox spirit, HuLi, is on the hunt for your soul.
As you struggle through cramped corridors and torn parchments to avoid your impending doom, the ScrollMaster summons a powerful vortex to trap you for all eternity.
This house has 3D effects and you will be handed a pair of ChromaDepth 3D glasses. The glasses will enhance the atmos-fear as it creates a disorienting experience where certain elements appear to jump out or even float in front of you. Also the glasses are a cool souvenir, the last time they were handed out was in 2014’s Jack’s 3-Dementia.

Singapore’s Most Haunted: The Killings
Based on stories surrounding a real location at Loyang in Singapore, HHN12 now offers you a once-in-a-lifetime experience to explore a similarly-haunted, abandoned building.
After lighting an incense offering to the stone lions, their eyes glow menacingly, and the metal gates slowly swing open. They have permitted you to enter the forsaken building, where you can try to uncover the truth behind the murders committed within.
People were here before – trying to make sense of what happened. But they are no longer around. The path continues into derelict corridors, that transport you into a ghostly world beyond.
Eventually, the spirits are angered by your presence, and you have to make your way out before the incense burns out, and so will your life.
This is perhaps the most intense and darkest house this year – with lots of details in the characters and room. It’s all for you to piece together your own story of surviving a deadly experience in one of the most haunted places in Singapore.

HHN12 Scare Zones review
Nether-Land
Dance with the undead and party the night away as sinister DJs take the stage, spinning hypnotic music that would make your heart pound.
Roaming dancers and revelers pushing wild floats welcome you to join the party of the afterlife. Excitement reaches fever pitch during Ocu.lar’s Rave, when the zone icon Ocu.lar makes his much-awaited appearance at Nether-Land. Scroll down for more details.
Nether-Land is also a Party Zone, presented by partner Tiger Soju. You can grab drinks and enjoy some activities at the Party area facing the main stage.
I think this zone still faces the same challenges as with the past few HHN events: The main focus is the stage, and there is not enough “energy” along the street. Even the lighting doesn’t match up compared to past zones with large lit sets. The atmosphere just feels off with the emptiness and lack of activity at the other end. The music here is fire, though.
Granted the New York zone is typically a busy area during event nights, with many attractions and shows happening in the area so the park needs to keep the area “porous” for safety and crowd control.

The Lost Kampung
Loosely based on Sembawang Park, another haunted place in Singapore, where cursed objects and unwanted items are abandoned, and also an infamous burial ground.
As you through the gateway and into a misty forest, spirits start to emerge from the darkness, and you start to see shadows moving in the distance…
There are spaces in The Lost Kampung that seem darker than some of the haunted houses, mainly due to the temporary night blindness effect caused by strong lights and transitions to dark spaces. It can make you feel very anxious, and the scares more intense.
Often I felt that there’s something in the shadows – but there wasn’t (or… hmm) But the scare zone’s storytelling feIt a bit incomplete, and some areas are really too dark to be enjoyable. All these which I hope will be tweaked throughout the season.

Vampire Alley
In this dingy, neon-lit alley, you can meet vampires of all kinds, many of which are hunting for fresh blood – and you’re their next victim!
The streets are filled with human victims and the lower rung of the vampires – scrambling to survive.
Illicit activities thrive in this seedy underbelly, but there is an uprising to make a change – but you may need to get to the vampires at the top.
With its design, this is more of an outdoor “haunted house”, with a few containers that you have to walk through (with surprises!), so we can also take this as a bonus, 5th haunted house.
The Vampire Alley’s story is also connected to the HHN12 Special Experience, Viper Lounge, which is next in this review.

HHN12 Shows and Special Experience review
Viper Lounge Special Experience
If you are worthy (or bought the add-on tickets), then you may enter the exclusive Viper Lounge. This speakeasy bar is run by The Elders, the upper-class vampires.
This is how vampires at the top live – in opulence, a stark contrast from those in the Vampire Alley. And if you made it here, you are always welcomed to hang out with them in this lavish party. There’s always something happening, so you’ll just have to live in the moment, enjoy your time here, and interact with the vampires for the best experience.
But things are not as they seem… if you are lucky, you may discover a secret adventure in Viper Lounge. And it’s up to you to decide what to do next.

Dark Dreams show in Pantages Hollywood Theater
The Dream Reaper unleashes their terrifying reign in Dark Dreams. Prepare for an entertaining stage show as you witness their chilling powers used to manipulate hapless victims, twisting their dreams into horrifying nightmares. Tortured to death, the dreamers perish, and their souls are harvested.
You’re brought to the Dream Wasteland, where the Dream Reaper spins the Wheel of Misfortune to select the kind of dark dreams to invade. One of them might be about clowns.
The show is filled with quick wits, stunts, exciting dance numbers, and a surprising amount of quick illusions that is enthralling to watch live. In short, I really enjoyed this – it is perhaps my next favourite HHN show after Jack’s Recurring Nightmare Circus (2016).
Dark Dreams is also quite interactive and the best seats would be in the middle front section, near the stage. Head to Pantages early to get a good seat!

Ocu.lar’s Rave show in Nether-Land scare zone
Submit to a new terror when zone icon Ocu.lar steps foot in Nether-Land, charging the atmosphere with sinister anticipation.
As he takes control of the dance floor to unleash his evil influence, voodoo beats pulse through Nether-Land, casting a hypnotic spell over all – living and undead.

Night Terrors show in Far Far Away
The Dream Reaper’s “second show” is a castle projection spectacle at Far Far Away. In this 5-minute experience, an abandoned fortress unleashes the evil within, transforming its walls into visual nightmares.
I’m pleasantly surprised at how this turned out for a first castle projection show, and hopefully this is a permanent addition to the park’s programming, with new shows for seasonal events.

Thanks for the review every year!!
Will there still be vip area for the Dark Dream show like pre covid?
RIP Tour guests can enjoy a reserved viewing area in the Theater for Dark Dreams.
Hi Dejiki, going tonight and was wondering how often do the shows play? Based on your reviews would love to watch Dark Dreams but have never gotten to watch these shows due to queueing. However got the Frights for Four Package tmr so hoping to get an early start!
This will only be known after the event officially starts, but there should be at least 2-3 show times for Dark Dreams and 1 show for the main Ocu.lar’s Rave. Night Terrors will be shown every 30 minutes throughout the night from 8:30PM.
How do you get to the secret room at the viper lounge?
Can you do a review for Sunway Lagoon’s Nights of Fright 10 too?
Will you be reviewing RIP tour?
Hi Dejiki, what is on day scream?
I want to go at 10th but the ticket sold out. Can i go to the park and buy straightaway?
On-Day Scream are same-day tickets. Thus if you want to go today (10 Oct), you have to select this ticket option because the other ones require buying a day in advance.
