As we’ve never covered the auditions for the past 6 years, we thought to drop by and give you guys an early peek into the region’s biggest scarefest. It’s a walk-in open call held at Level 5 of *SCAPE for 4 days: 3, 4, 10, 11 June 2017.

SCARE ACTOR ORIGINS
At registration, scare actor hopefuls fill their profile sheets, get their pictures and measurements taken, before waiting for their turn to meet the judging panel.
Halloween Horror Nights is a huge event. The park needs anyone, of all ages and ethnicity, who love Halloween and enjoy the art of scaring. Some “Cheat Sheets” on the wall hint how the process is like. It doesn’t sound very difficult, or is it?
The panel (park’s entertainment team) hopes to find the hundreds of talents needed to fill the scare ensemble.
Each batch of 10 people are led into the room. The group audition is very dynamic, with instructions changing quickly, to see if the talents-to-be are versatile and enthusiastic.
Building the scare experience at the park is a team effort, so those auditioning have to work well with strangers. There are lots of performers from past events returning – it might be good to chat around in the holding rooms for tips!
Each session takes around 10-15 minutes. The experienced ones are wearing clothes that are easy to move in – some even take their shoes off. People flip, roll, crawl and move in all sorts of ways. There’s one segment where participants need to perform in a rather dramatic scene, typical of Halloween Horror Nights, in the normalcy and plainness of this function room.
It’s not about who can scream and shout the loudest. To be a good scare actor at Halloween Horror Nights, one must be very capable of improv and commit to their assigned roles.

How does the audition actually look and sound like? Watch and find out.
Those with special skills and tricks could stay behind to perform separately. Also, this year, the park is looking for people who can speak in certain languages. Perhaps we might get to see a ‘foreign’ concept for a haunted house/ scare zone at HHN7.
Add in the time for registration and waiting, and the audition process takes an hour or two. Not a bad way to spend your weekend afternoon for try-outs for this epic event, huh?

Ah! I’ve always wanted to be a part of the cast/crew for this amazing event. Unfortunately my day job doesn’t permit me to do so. Nevertheless, my full respect for the people who make every HHN possible, both front- and back-of-house! ??????
