HHN14 Scaremony: The Cursed Collection Unleashed at Universal Studios Singapore

Four streamers break into the wrong warehouse in the HHN14 Scaremony opening show at Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights 14.

Overview and Thoughts

Every Halloween Horror Nights needs a moment where the gates open and the night truly begins. At HHN14, that moment is Scaremony, back on the Hollywood outdoor stage as a live show for the first time since 2023, after HHN12 and HHN13 went without a live performance at the rope drop. This year it hands the opening to four streamers who break into the wrong warehouse.

Officially, the park simply calls it Scaremony. This is the show where the Cursed Collection gets unleashed. The warehouse is the Karang Guni’s hoard, and most of what the streamers uncover points to something in this year’s lineup, so half the fun is spotting the nods.

The staging device I enjoyed most is the giant screen on the second level of the stage. It switches between a scenic view of the warehouse roof and the streamers’ livestream feed, complete with chat. That is how we follow PrincessSorrow once she disappears into the cursed chest, while the warehouse set stays right there on stage.

I prefer Opening Scaremony shows that are short and sweet, and this one runs about five minutes. It packs a lot of story into that window without dragging.

HHN14 Scaremony Explained

Before the main show, pre-show segments play on the screen, including a THRILLSEEKER sneak peek with the Fatimah Rockers. The streamers’ livestream also begins here, setting up the story.

Four streamers, TechTonic, Lilac, Collapse and PrincessSorrow, break into a warehouse to film content. TechTonic and PrincessSorrow are pictured here, and their livestream plays out on the giant screen above them.

They start pulling drapes off the objects hoarded in the warehouse, and almost every discovery points to something in this year’s lineup.

On the upper level, TechTonic pulls away covers and discovers ornate lamps from Club PanDEMONium. Collapse reveals a large crate bearing the XL Robotics logo, revealing a robot, and asks TechTonic whether it is mogging him. Soon after, TechTonic finds an old ON AIR sign on the upper level, and it lights up. The two props nod to Made in Hell: XL Robotics and Singapore’s Most Haunted: ON AIR.

Startled, Lilac knocks over a small piece of luggage, and small puppets spill out. A hint to Chatterbox Charlie’s Vaudeville Horrors.

PrincessSorrow finds a box of large, bloodied nails – a nod to Ponti-Ana and Nail the Beat at The Raveyard. Collapse pulls the drapes off a large chest to help her wipe the blood from her hands, and the cursed chest appears in full. It glows green with loud knocking beats from inside, and PrincessSorrow rips off the protective talisman, cracking the lid open slightly.

“Who thinks I should go inside and investigate further?” she asks, before suggesting a “Closet Game Speedrun”. She climbs in, and the door closes behind her.

The screen switches to her livestream, which the other three streamers watch on their phones. Inside the chest is a small room, and her lighter flickers out.

Light returns from overhead, revealing a long corridor that lights up one by one as the Karang Guni walks across the far end. PrincessSorrow calls out to him for help and runs after him, but is pulled through a series of interconnected liminal spaces. The chat disappears from the feed here; the livestream has slipped into another realm.

At every turn, something from the lineup taunts her. Puppet shadows slide past, and a face flashes across the screen like a horror game jump scare. The Karang Guni chases her down a staircase, where a sign for Club PanDEMONium can be seen, and she lands in another corridor facing the backs of the four HHN14 icons: KHAOS, Chatterbox Charlie, the CEO and the TV Ghost.

She flips the camera to selfie view, crying and breaking down, and the Karang Guni appears right behind her. He grabs her, the screen cuts to black, and the stream disconnects.

Back on stage, the chest lid swings fully open. The XL Robotics android comes to life and strangles Collapse, and Lilac runs over to help, but it is too late. A grotesque dancing ballerina music box figure rises from the chest, which slowly turns to face the front. Lilac realises it is PrincessSorrow and runs out of the warehouse, her fate unknown.

Up on the second level, TechTonic is on the phone to the police when the Karang Guni creeps up behind him, interrupts the call and slits his throat. A giant blood splatter fills the screen, and TechTonic is thrown out of the scene.

“Once Open…. CANNOT BE CLOSED!!” says the Karang Guni of the chest. Its walls collapse, and the four icons walk out together as Power Glove by Knife Party plays, a track that has been used for Scaremonies in Singapore. The event is officially open.

Meet the HHN14 Icons

There is no meet and greet right after Scaremony. A few minutes after the finale, the icons leave the stage and staff reset it, restoring the walls of the cursed chest and the props that were revealed. The stage then hosts meet and greets throughout the night, with characters rotating. In my visits so far, I have met The TV Ghost, Chatterbox Charlie and The CEO there.

Showtime, Viewing Areas and Rope Drop

When does Scaremony start?

The main show starts at 7:25PM, with pre-show segments playing on the screen beforehand, so it is worth getting into position early. The show itself runs about five minutes and ends around 7:30PM, when the first rope drop happens.

Where to watch Scaremony

The Hollywood zone is split into three viewing areas, from front to back.

VIP Priority Access is at the very front, reserved for RIP Tour guests. The 7:30PM, 8:00PM and 8:30PM tours share the same viewing area.

Priority Access is behind it, for guests with eligible tickets: Frequent Fear Pass, Frights For Two and Stay & Scream.

General access is further back. It is a distance from the stage, but an overhead screen zooms in on the action, so you will not miss much. Express Pass holders do not get priority access to Scaremony, so they join general access unless they also hold an eligible ticket.

What happens after Scaremony?

The rope drop runs in stages. VIP access opens first, and RIP Tour guests are given time to leave the Hollywood area. Nobody runs at this point. They exit to the right, towards the area outside Mel’s Drive-In, and are escorted on to continue or wait for their tour.

Once the RIP guests have cleared the area, priority access opens, and this is where the running starts. General access opens once most of the priority crowd has moved forward. From here the area is fully open, and guests can head left or right.
