Overview and Thoughts
Dark Zodiac shares similarities with March of the Dead (2016), notably that it’s a zone with great theming, scenic and creative costuming. Even the castle entrance arch feels like a homage to the 2016 zone. The ‘Great hall’ stage is another highlight, with its giant circular display changing between the Moon and other “information” media. But beyond those few set pieces near the stage, the street feels sparse.
Every zodiac sign has a unique costume (that looks rather heavy and hard to move in), so only some characters are capable of quick movements. Almost all characters are silent. It makes Dark Zodiac a zone that is less scary, but with a greater visual appeal that is ideal for photos.
After all, what’s more exciting than meeting your own astrological sign and taking photos with it?
The highlight of this zone is its show, The Resurrection, which happens just a handful of times each night. Only during the show will you see the full cast of the scare zone, including the Horrorcle – the mysterious icon and the evil villainess channeling the 13th Zodiac, the dangerous Ophiuchus, that is behind all the darkness in this zone.
Only about 6 Dark Zodiac signs and a couple of ‘Tar’ creatures roam at any time, so the zone felt a bit empty during the initial nights. Just like the March of the Dead, the zone tends to look uneventful at times, especially if you happen to visit again without seeing the other ‘team’ of 6 zodiacs.
Creative adjustments were made after the first week: The park added victims to the scare zone, so that the Dark Zodiacs may torment humans and harvest their souls, shifting the concept and dynamic to something like the Pilgrimage of Sin (2017). The appearance and costumes of some dark zodiacs were also adjusted.
I revisited the park during the final weekend, and here are some new photos, with some of them showing the changes:

In the ruins of this castle, the Dark Zodiacs dwell, preying on mortals that dare step inside.

Dark Zodiac – The Resurrection
When the Blood Moon rises, and the twelve constellations of darkness align, the Thirteenth will be reborn!
The Hag: The time has come!
Dark Zodiacs, the Horrorcle summons thee! Emerge from the shadows of the night! Descend from the skies! Visit your darkness on the Earth!
The Moon shimmers, and starts to bleed red. Drawings of the 12 Zodiacs emerge.
In a flash, they vanish from the skies.
The 12 Zodiac signs appear inside the great hall of the castle, standing in a row – each holding onto an accessory.
And now, the Sacrifice! Dark Zodiacs, your offering!
Deliver them to me!
Tar creatures collect the accessory, bringing them to the Hag.
By the blood of this Moon, the prophesy will be fulfilled! Dark Zodiacs, your offerings will complete the ritual! Hear the Horrorcle and accept their sacrifice!
An air of chaos fill the great hall, as the ritual proceeds.
The crimson red robes were ripped apart, revealing the Thirteen, now reborn as The Horrorcle.
My Dark Zodiacs… The Thirteenth lives again! Bow to your leader! The power is mine!
Go! Wreak havoc on their pathetic souls! Bind them to darkness for all eternity!
