About Halloween Horror Nights 10: BEFORE DARK
BEFORE DARK is DEJIKI.COM’s original series documenting the transformation of Universal Studios Singapore for its Halloween Horror Nights event. Any relevant updates about the event will be included in this series too.
Due to the park’s suspension of the Annual Pass programme, there will be less BEFORE DARK content this year as it is not viable for me to buy a day ticket to visit for an hour every weekend.
HHN10 Event Map
Based on information that’s been floating around, or implied from officially released materials, I have created the map of Halloween Horror Nights 10 back in August:

‘The Silenced Auction’ Scaremony stage
Halloween Horror Nights 10’s Opening Scaremony show will be held at Hollywood once again, unlike the one at New York back in 2019. With an LED screen backdrop, it’s like the stage used for HHN8 Opening Scaremony and Meet & Greets, but much narrower, as the hoarding for the Madagascar zone demolition works are still there.
The large display is framed by tall black panels decorated with black sequins, and there are a few layers of these panels which can slide out and cover the screen. In the middle of the stage, the center section of the lower screen is placed nearer to the front, leaving an opening at the back. These elements suggest how the Scaremony show may be executed.
Titled ‘The Silenced Auction’, the Opening Scaremony will feature the Killustrator, this year’s lead icon. My guess is his artworks will come to life, with characters from this year’s houses and zones joining him on stage.
Interestingly, some parts of the Hollywood boulevard’s curb have been levelled flush to the street, offering better accessibility and a more stable ground to stand among the crowds for the show.
Dark Zodiac scare zone
The ruined castle sets at the New York zone will be used for two park offerings: Sesame Street’s Fortress of Fun in the day, and the Dark Zodiac scare zone during HHN10.
Have a closer look at the castle.
You’re seeing cute carved pumpkins and “nice” decor now, which are likely to be replaced with corpses and gruesome things at night.
At the New York Library facade, there is a floating circular window with a screen, which shows a talking character in the day.
The screen is surrounded by the 12 Zodiac symbols.
The setting around the Library suggests that some sort of ceremony will be held here by the Horrorcle character, with I presume scare actors representing the Zodiac signs gathering to summon the 13th one, Ophiuchus.
The Hunt for Pontianak scare zone
The Jurassic Park zone’s jungle is already somewhat creepy at night without any props and effects. Let’s head inside.
Park signage and broken bus stops will be in the first part of the scare zone.
Here’s a closer look at the sign of this soon-to-be-very haunted forest, which appears to reference a forest in Selangor, Malaysia.
There’s plentiful of Pontianak’s favourite hiding spot.
Along the way in the jungle, you’ll signs of people who have set up camp here, along with a hut of sorts with strange items.
Then on the other side, nets with weird charm-like objects.
HHN10 Haunted Houses
It’s probably still too early, so the entrances to the three haunted houses this year have still not gone up. But here’s what you can see:
Construction walls at Waterworld queue, for the zombie-themed Operation: Dead Force.
This is where the next haunted house, Hospitality of Horror, is located.
Hints of Hotel Golden Monument (the in-universe name of this haunted house) can be seen over the park fence.
Speaking of which, I am going to laugh if the twist in this haunted house is that it was actually a hospital, or built on top of one, or somehow leads into one. After all, it has happened in real life…
Escape the Breakout! Laser Tag experience
Sting Alley is now closed due to construction for HHN10’s Laser Tag experience.
From the New York Harbour, there are fences and chains to create a maze-like environment for the themed game.
Also this strange “laundromat area”.
And a few of these large boxes wrapped in black cloth, of which one of them was fluttering in the wind…
Yikes.
Other event changes
HHN10 MasterCard Promotion – Package Price Revision
A few people have contacted me about the MasterCard promotional rates for HHN10, as the Frights for Four package had a price revision (to $308 non-peak, $358 peak) last week, but the old price ($278 non-peak, $328 peak) could sometimes still be seen, even if the transaction could not be completed. Eventually, the booking system has been completely updated with the pricing discrepancy resolved.
Anyway, the pricing is never fixed for some types of tickets due to promotions, so my advice is to make plans fast and get your tickets early.

Is it just me or is this year’s event smaller than the previous years ones? Also there seems to be lesser local themed horror this year. I’m guessing covid and maybe lesser time for planning this year with the newly-lifted covid measures.
Any idea if there will be open establishments til late outside USS during HHN? Eg: Mcdonalds & other restaurants at The Forum?
Most of the F&B will close at 9-10PM. The McDonald’s at RWS has not resumed 24/7 opening hours, thus you may want to explore other options at Vivocity.
