Here is a new before dark update. There are a lot of new additions to the scare zones, especially Bizarre Bazaar and Total Lockdown.
Before Dark is a short series of entries showcasing thematic elements of Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights during the day.
◂ House of Dolls ▸
Two signs have been added at the entrance to The House of Dolls. Open and closed.
Two cabinets (one of them appeared a while back, but it was empty) are placed at the start of Hollywood Boulevard. They’re already filled with all sorts of creepy dolls and other knickknacks, so they’re covered up for now.
A lot of new additions at the two sets we’ve seen last week.
There was also a hanging cage too, but I forgot to include a photo. It doesn’t look strong enough to support a scare actor – who knows what prop might be trying to escape instead?
Back to the sets on the ground – the “Custom Made Toys” is now adorned with some picture frames.
The study area is now CRAMMED with all sorts of props:
Stacks of books and bundles of papers – anatomical studies and sketches, I’d assume.
A clock – which looks like the falling prop in Vengeance of the Matriarch last year, but I could be wrong.
There’s even a PRAM behind the desk.
Further away, there’s this clockwork-themed set. Three main elements here: A table (for tools, or a victim?), a narrow cage at the right (definitely for a victim) and there’s a short flight of stairs behind.
Yet another wrapped set. In case you’re wondering why the park wraps up these sets…
You really don’t want park guests, those who cannot face their fears at Halloween Horror Nights, to see creepy props like this… even in the day.
Some transformation at the stage seen last week. My guess is that this is a photo-op area, where park guests stand on the lower platform and wrap the fake noose around their necks. The puppetmaster (or another character) will stand on the raised stage.
◂ Total Lockdown ▸
DANGER!
Compared to the Post-Apocalyptic Rage scare zone last year, this year’s props for Total Lockdown are dauntingly tall…
Yep, New York now looks like a Quarantine zone. There’s this billboard of a fictional film called “The Devil Inside”. (Oh, do you see someone familiar?)
This is the truck that carried all the “mysterious radioactive substance”.
A closer look.
This overturned car has a pretty shiny license plate.
Back to the truck – it’s looking crazy.
You get the picture.
The star prop of this zone, is the helicopter.
The tail section fell off at the other end of New York.
Beside that, we have a phone booth. It’s making New York hard to walk across (especially when street shows are playing). This means nothing but mayhem during Halloween Horror Nights.
An overview of the lovely theming here.
It appears that Sci-Fi City will not have a scare zone this year. It does make sense, as there are three blockbuster attractions operating here.
◂ Death Alley ▸
The queue entrance sign to Death Alley has been placed near the same spot as The Pestilence last year.
Spot the changes! Well, apart from the two lanterns, there’s a greater sense of wear and dilapidation.
Last week I said that the maze seemed spacious. Seems like the park hasn’t added all these barrels.
It’s now a lot more cramped, and also marks the “path” and corners where scare actors can jump out from.
Well, it does look more like a marketplace. More bowls, random plants, ripped fabrics, ropes and garlic/onions dangling off some stalls.
The path changes here. Anyone could just walk through last week, but I did mention a movable wall. Well, seems like they moved a matching wall over.
The second half of Death Alley (taking place in Water Street) is called Pleasure Inn.
Let’s move over to the exit. Nothing interesting, until I zoom in…
Hmm, a few blood-stained shirts hanging there.
Just like in 2011, the maze exit is used to store props for the New York scare zone during the day.
◂ Bizarre Bazaar ▸
Let’s head over to Bizarre Bazaar.
Our dear Mr. Skull-on-the-Banner has a few other friends.
My assumption that they’ll use the poles to hold up a roof here was correct. This area should look great at night, but for a large number of park guests, it’s a welcomed change during the day. Many guests were resting around this area.
There’s a handful of shops in this wicked Bazaar. One of them has something extra…
Perhaps something near that stall could tell what lies beneath. This looks like a torture device.
It’s a small bazaar though. Seems like it will not extend towards the entrance of Temple (aka Revenge of the Mummy).
At the other end of Ancient Egypt, there’s another frame being installed for (possibly) another scare zone’s entrance banner. Or could it be a second banner for Bizarre Bazaar, as guests could walk to Ancient Egypt from The Lost World? but given that the Bazaar stops before the Temple, putting this here seems too far from the actual bazaar.
So is the last scare zone at The Lost World/Jurassic Park?
That concludes the second issue of Halloween Horror Nights 2 – Before Dark. The amount of theming for HHN is just incredible this year, in terms of quantity and quality. I can’t wait to see the park at night, and of course, experience Halloween Horror Nights 2. Stay tuned next week for the third issue of Before Dark.

Halloween Horror Nights
Hi..
Do you know whether the ticket that we buy for halloween horror nights ($68) can be used starting from morning until midnight or just available for entry at 8pm-12am?
Thanks.
Cool details, anyway 🙂
Hi Freda, the $68 ticket is only valid for Halloween Horror Nights admission, from 8PM to 12AM only. If you want to visit the park from morning to night, you should buy a day ticket ($68~74) and the HHN Stay and Scream add-on (+$45).
Your site is fantastic. Your excellent photos set the mood for the event. I’m coming up from Brisbane Australia for 2 nts for this. Been to HHN in Orlando (2003/2006/2008/2010) & Howl-O-Scream in Tampa (X2) and this looks great (& I get to eat some Singapore food too!) Can’t wait.
Hi Joe,
Thank you for your kind words.
Which nights are you attending HHN2?
20 & 21 October… Next weekend 🙂
Hey im going on the 20th too!
Also my name is Joe!
Ill be keeping my eyes open
Hey guys,
Do return here and post your reviews and comments about HHN2. I’d love to hear your opinions!
