Fear hits home inside Singapore’s Most Haunted Build to Horror, an original haunted house bringing local nightmares to life at Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights 13

Overview and Thoughts
The scariest stories are the ones rooted in the places you pass every day. Build to Horror succeeds brilliantly by tapping directly into the uniquely Singaporean anxiety surrounding rapid urban expansion, the constant cycle of building and demolishing, often over neglected places and forgotten stories.
As public housing is central to Singaporean life, this house exploits the profound familiarity of the Build to Order (BTO) homes across Singapore. It transforms the mundane into the terrifying, leveraging the uncanny sensation of being in an intensely familiar space, but with a dark, terrifying twist. It’s no longer an attraction at Universal Studios theme park; it feels like your neighbourhood, after dark, eerily quiet, and you are all alone.
Build to Horror can also be described as a remake of the Siloso Gateway Block 50 house (2015) staged exactly 10 years ago. Its terror is no longer drawn from a dark celestial event; instead, the plot centers on an ancient evil buried deep beneath the estate’s foundation. The source of malice is the Demon Sinseh, who has pinned down the tormented souls of helpless residents using his cursed acupuncture needles. As you navigate scenes referencing familiar local settings and lore, the Demon Sinseh’s horrifying handiwork is on full visceral display, ensuring the terror hits uncomfortably close to home.
With more space available at the largest site for houses at Universal Studios Singapore, Build to Horror offered a longer experience of the haunted heartlands, bringing you through various homes, to the roof, and deep below, to the Demon Sinseh’s lair. Surprisingly, Build to Horror even added an interactive element through UV flashlights – something that it didn’t need, but helped to give it an extra edge over the other three (IP-based) houses. It’s no surprise that this has won the (still beating) hearts of many guests at HHN13.
The imposing facade of Block 13A looms into the night sky. This is Jalan Tiga Belas, the BTO estate known for mysterious hauntings. Strange occurrences halted construction years ago, leaving sections unfinished.
The air is still, save for the chilling, mournful bird calls and the unsettling buzz of flickering lights, the only company you have tonight.
You make your way past the main entrance and move through rows of abandoned, shuttered shops. Strange symbols can be seen among them.
Oh, some shops are still open here.
A sudden burst of noise startles you. The shop owner shouts fiercely at you to leave. Just across the narrow corridor, the local barber is paralyzed in a trance.
The corridor ahead is a dead end. Your only path forward leads straight through a dimly lit Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) shop. You hesitate, spotting that same unsettling, strange symbol marking the doorway, a clear sign the evil follows you.
The shop was oddly empty, until a moment of pure shock: a horribly disfigured woman explodes through a wall, screaming.
The Demon Sinseh appears, gesturing you to come inside.
At the back of shop lies a shocking sight: an elaborate altar set up for a strange, dark ritual. Flanking this sinister display are several bound body bags, their restraints reinforced by numerous protective talismans.
As the Demon Sinseh creeps closer, you bolt out from the back door. You need to run. Fast.
You burst into the lift lobby, now horrifyingly decked out in red. Is it the color of the tiles, or has the whole space been drenched in blood? Before you can think, a huge boar-like creature descends from the stairs.
The tension is abruptly broken as a makcik suddenly wheels her trolley into the lobby, seemingly in a rush for the lift. She stops, looks directly at you, and, in a jarringly normal tone, asks: “keropok for you?”
You make a desperate dash past the rows of letterboxes, your heart pounding. Did you just see a child hidden in the shadows? The chilling thought of a Toyol spirit flashes in your mind, but you don’t slow down to confirm the sighting.
You look back. It’s indeed the spirit. Cramped corridors block your way – why are people keeping so much stuff outside their flats??
Through an open door, you find yourself wandering right into the home of a hoarder.
It looks empty at first, until its inhabitants start to materialise from all the cursed objects stacked from floor to ceiling.
Venturing to the back of the flat, you enter the kitchen, only to discover this is no ordinary meal prep.
A gruesome gore-met cuisine is being violently prepared, and with the way the residents look at you, there’s no doubt you’ve interrupted a cooking session where you are the intended main course…
Fleeing the killer chef, you slip past the cursed laundry and reach the stairwell.
The only way forward is up, and the relentless climb brings you to the incomplete rooftop deck of the block.
A young woman stumbles near the water tank. She said she saw something.
A Shui Gui (water ghost) emerges from the water tank, ready to claim your soul.
Startled by the water ghost on the roof, you race downstairs, finding yourself immediately in the flat of an Indian family. A man sits alone on his bed, screaming in terror at the unseen forces tormenting his mind.
Leaving the screaming man behind, you find a way out into the raw, unfinished skeleton of the block.
The space is clearly dangerous and unstable, but navigating this chaotic, half-built area is your best chance of staying alive.
But your path isn’t clear: you suddenly encounter terrifying ghouls along the way, including one that instantly chills you, a shadowy figure resembling a Pontianak. The shock of seeing the legendary spirit is enough to make you freeze completely in your tracks.
Shaking off the terror, you duck and scramble through a collapsed opening. The unstable path leads you downward, and you soon find yourself in the mazelike tunnels and foundations deep below the HDB block.
A tunnel leads you further down, opening into a grim, sprawling catacomb. Was this here all along? You realise the bodies packed onto the shelves are not still – they are slowly stirring, shifting, and coming back to life.
The Demon Sinseh is close, his voice a torrent of roaring incantations for his ultimate dark ritual. Using his cursed needles, he has fully corrupted the residents’ souls, giving him dominion over the entire estate.
You are now exposed as his final sacrifice, needed to complete his bid for immortality and power.
Your chilling fate is written here: to be trapped in this lair, forever bound to the curse of the ancients buried beneath the hallowed heartlands.
