From Netflix’s Stranger Things to chilling Asian hellscapes of The Unruly Immortals and Death Whisperer, get your breakdown of everything about the HHN13 horror multiverse that has taken over Universal Studios Singapore in this Halloween Horror Nights 13 MEGA Photo Review!
Halloween Horror Nights 13 Mega Review by DEJIKI
The clock has struck 13, and Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights 13 has unleashed a multiverse of terror. This year, you can enjoy an unparalleled mix of global and regional horror.
Begin your journey by reliving the terrifying events of Stranger Things, before facing the modern-day fears of Blumhouse Productions with sinister characters from M3GAN, The Black Phone, and The Purge coming to life. But true nightmares emerge from Asia: Face psychological torment and descend into a supernatural dimension in The Unruly Immortals. Go on a chilling journey into rural Thailand in Death Whisperer, or even uncover hauntings closest to home at a new chapter of Singapore’s Most Haunted: Build to Horror.
And it doesn’t end there. Escape from twisted clowns and carnies lurking in The FEARground, or wander through a Japanese-inspired forest where spirits and demons roam free at The Realm of Yokai. And don’t stop – you’ll need to get to Mr Rabid’s Wonder-Hell in Once Upon A Time… to Die, before running out of time.
After facing it all, my full review is here for those who dare to enter a world where the border between reality and horror is completely blurred.
Note: This is a developing story. Content will be updated throughout the HHN season. Special Feature articles, photos and videos will also be published on DEJIKI.COM and DEJIKI on Instagram, YouTube and Tiktok.

HHN13 Haunted Houses review
Netflix’s Stranger Things
The return of Stranger Things at HHN13 is a bold vision to encompass three seasons of content into a single haunted house.
Picking up where the 2018 house left off, you’re immediately plunged back into the terrors of the Upside Down, navigating the Byers’ house, and into the familiar, yet destroyed corridors of Hawkins National Laboratory, where you’ll eventually find Eleven using her powers to seal off a Gate.
The journey then takes a turn into the sinister, with flayed residents emerging from the Brimborn Steel works and the Starcourt Mall in ruins. Finally, you’ll confront Vecna in the chilling Creel House and his blood-red mind lair.
While the ambition of the house’s design is evident, the experience feels incredibly compressed. The constant shift between iconic scenes felt like a rapid-fire highlight reel, rather than an immersive journey. A larger venue might have allowed for a more expansive and deeply terrifying experience that matched the show’s scale.

The Unruly Immortals
As a first-time collaboration with Yuewen (Chinese IP), The Unruly Immortals attempts to deliver a mind-bending experience based on the popular novel and comic adaptation. The house immediately thrusts you into the warped reality of Li Huowang, a high schooler that phases between multiple dimensions.
Your journey begins in the modern world, navigating the decrepit corridors of the White Pagoda Hospital (白塔医院), before a girl in red leads you through mirrored chambers and into an ancient world of cultivation.
The hallways further on are disorienting, flashing through various places and occasions, such as from a tavern and a wedding to even a gambling den of sorts, before ending up in varying hellscapes and a horrifying chamber filled with giant eyes. This house’s main strength lies in its spacious rooms, which provide ample space for scare actors and choreographed sequences.
On the other hand, some of the larger scenes felt a bit sparse, with flat walls, and some oddly translated English text, that left me feeling uncertain about the intended atmosphere. Just like the novel, which is never clear on what is reality or a fabrication of Li Huowang’s mind – until the very end.

Death Whisperer
Based on Thailand’s recent record-breaking horror films, Death Whisperer brings a chilling dose of Thai horror to Singapore. This haunted house meticulously recreates spine-chilling moments from the first two movies, taking you into rural Kanchanaburi in the 1970s.
The atmosphere is thick with dread even from the start – as you journey through the fields and into the Y family’s haunted home. As you explore deeper, you find yourself at the witch’s hut, ignoring the warnings from characters you pass along the way.
Following the protagonist’s adventures into Dong Khomot forest, you’ll encounter a rare dual-level haunted house design before descending into the dangerous swamp where the Black Spirit is lurking, seeking for a new host.
You’ll then experience the climatic arc of the second film, where intense hauntings manifest for the other members of the Y family. Mirroring the cadence of the film, you’ll feel like you’ve truly walked into Thai horror cinema.
This haunted house’s authentic setting and relentless suspense makes it a truly terrifying tribute.

Singapore’s Most Haunted: Build to Horror
This haunted house hits close to home, literally. Ten years after Siloso Gateway Block 50 brought twisted horrors of home to life, Build to Horror feels like a love letter to the original, but with a modern twist.
Taking place above a forgotten burial ground, the HDB estate at Jalan Tiga Belas has been corrupted by the Demon Sinseh.
As you navigate very familiar corridors and spaces around Singapore’s public housing estates, you’ll encounter a horde of terrifying spirits and possessed residents.
From everyday sights to neighbours from hell – this house will let you relive the horrors of the heartlands.
Build to Horror also offers a new interactive element: UV torchlights. This allows you to uncover hidden messages throughout your harrowing experience, helping to reveal secrets of the Demon Sinseh, and the rituals binding residents to the unfortunate curse.
As you discover more clues, you’ll find yourself at the lair of the Demon Sinseh, where you will be the next part of his forbidden rituals.
From its impressive house facade to novel UV interactivity and generally unconventional design, I’d say that Build to Horror is a great modern remake of the original. This house has taken in a lot of the best design tricks and ideas we’ve seen in past houses in Singapore, making it a joyful, if terrifying, walk-through.

HHN13 Scare Zones review
The FEARground
Seemingly set in a post-apocalyptic era, this twisted carnival brings a pack of demented clowns and performers who are a far cry from the usual circus fare.
The street may look sparse, but that’s only because the horrors are ever-moving and all around—you never know who might be hiding in the shadows!
Each clown and performer has a unique, twisted costume that showcases their distinct personality and flair.
Beyond the larger-than-life characters, there are a handful of carnies, such as the wandering Dame of Doom, who might spill deadly premonitions and secrets upon a glance.
Another notable character is Chatterbox Charlie. Once a ventriloquist, he has now become a life-sized dummy, a puppet of his own creation. Even more unsettling, he carries a miniature, equally creepy doll version of himself, a chilling reminder of the fractured reality at Halloween Horror Nights 13.
Even with these marvelous characters, I sometimes wonder if the zone would feel more immersive with a cast of “victims”, similar to The Hacker and Dark Zodiac (version 2).
Carnies of the FEARground get loud and chaotic during two moments: Mass Mania, where the clowns break into a frenzy and you can join in! And Dare or Die Live! which is when the ringleader, the Death Devil, makes his appearance on stage. This is your chance to witness a show-stopping performance and, if you’re lucky (or super unlucky), you might even get called on stage!

The Realm of Yokai
Japanese horror has found its way to Universal Studios Singapore in the form of haunted houses before, but this is the first-ever scare zone inspired by Japanese folklore.
Taking place in Jurassic Park’s jungle area, The Realm of Yokai is both hauntingly beautiful and terrifying.
As you walk through the Torii gates adorned with tattered drapes, the ancient spirits begin to drift into view.
Your journey continues as you cross a serene bridge and enter an intimate corridor flanked by delicate shoji doors, each one a potential hiding place for the spirits lurking within.
Moving forward, you enter a tranquil garden canopied by tattered umbrellas. Once elegant, these umbrellas are now draped with long, black hair that extends endlessly, swaying in a chilling, unseen breeze.
You’ll defnitely meet some iconic Yokai, such as the Kasa Obake, or the umbrella ghost.
Detailed costumes, paired with eerie lighting and soundscapes, create a foreboding, immersive atmosphere in this tranquil realm of the supernatural. The journey also ends rather peacefully, where it appears that the demons are enjoying an otherworldly supper of their own.

HHN13 Shows and Special Experience review
Blumhouse Bar Special Experience
KT’s Grill has transformed into the Blumhouse Bar, with themed posters decorating the tables, and a number of photo opportunities scattered throughout both levels of the restaurant, including 2 scenes based on The Black Phone, and a special spot for M3GAN. As the Special Experience at HHN13, Blumhouse Bar goes beyond just a place to grab a drink.
Similar to last year’s Viper Lounge, there is ongoing entertainment happening at Blumhouse Bar – making every visit an opportunity to catch a short vignette and have a chance encounter with characters from the featured Blumhouse films.
You never know what might happen. Purgers taking over the bar, The Grabber could be hunting for his next victim, or you might find the killer from Happy Death Day lurking nearby. And have you met M3GAN?
The best part is there’s no charge to enter Blumhouse Bar, and you can order food and drinks from the special menu here and watch the horror unfold before your eyes – or be dragged into it!

Once Upon A Time To… Die show in Pantages Hollywood Theater
As an original show, Once Upon A Time To… Die is an interesting addition to the line-up.
It drops you into Mr. Rabid’s Wonder-Hell, a grim take on classic fairy tales where happy endings were altered for Rabid’s selfish goal of escaping death.
The modern, twisted character designs and costuming were a standout, offering a fresh and compelling HHN reinterpretation of Alice in Wonderland, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, and more. There were also some creative uses of the stage and theatre, including never-before-seen tricks.
However, in terms of music, the song choices didn’t hit right at a few moments, with at least one odd transition that stuck out for me. The build-up to the finale also felt a bit too long. After last year’s Dark Dreams show set a very high bar, it’s a tough act to follow.
The horror-laced fairytale theme also didn’t seem to fit with the rest of HHN13, but that might be the whole point – to be completely different from everything else.

Dare or Die LIVE! show in The FEARground scare zone
As the name suggests, Dare or Die LIVE! is the heart-pounding special entertainment offered at the FEARground.
Featuring a big cast of dancers and carnies, (un)lucky contestants are forced to play deadly games on stage. And we have the Death Devil giving the show an extra dose of adrenaline, plus several literal sparks and pyrotechnics.
The dance breaks and acrobatic acts are dazzling and excellent – with the drummer adding a real punch to the show. Dare or Die Live is a tight 10 mins experience, making it a perfect break from haunted houses, and a strong addition to the HHN13 lineup.

Blumhouse: Fear Lives Here show in Far Far Away
Projection mapping makes its comeback to Universal Studios Singapore, this time paying homage to Blumhouse Productions, the horror studio behind modern flicks such as M3GAN, The Black Phone, and Happy Death Day.
Far Far Away castle is once again the canvas for this projection mapping spectacle, bringing iconic moments from the films into a stunning visual display.
This projection show starts every 30 minutes from 8:00PM onwards. For some performances, Purgers will make a special appearance, adding some dazzling sparks and an extra layer of terror to the night.
