Holidays have taken a sinister turn at Happy Horror Days, a scare zone at Halloween Horror Nights 7.
Overview and Thoughts
For many years, the scare zone at Jurassic Park has always been the dark and unsettling one. Happy Horror Days is creepy (and scary for some), but the zones are much brighter than its predecessors. Apart from the Easter horror maze, the other scenes are so well-lit that its easy to snap photos with a smartphone, and you have probably seen lots of photos here on Instagram. With the elaborate scare actors’ costumes and performance – it might be what the park has planned for after all.
The 7 horror-days here are openly interpreted in comical ways. The standout feature is probably the audio design for the zones, which sounded great – especially the entrance area, Valentine’s Day and Easter. You can always feel the arrows flying, the killer WHAM! and more. Only Chinese New Year had some sound effects that didn’t feel right. There are also odd pockets of spaces between each thematic area – this could have roving performers. Or maybe there could be more dynamic performances integrating multiple areas. Then again, this jungle-like zone can get gridlocked during peak nights, so the park is playing it safe to accommodate massive crowds.
