Overview and Thoughts
Clowns have often appeared at Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights as it’s a rather common fear. Guests with coulrophobia have not been spared in the event’s 9-year run, with only two exceptions: HHN5 is a ‘clown-free’ year, and last year’s event was nearly clown-free, with one lone rookie attending DEAD Talks. The last time USS had a FULL Clown themed house was Jack’s 3-Dementia (HHN4), which is also the first and only haunted house with 3D glasses in Singapore.
Twisted Clown University seems to have it all this year – a compelling story, expressive characters, colourful sets and dramatic transitions. With the unusual luxury of space at the Waterworld queue, this is also the largest haunted house, and feels almost twice as long as the rest.
Every class in the University is run by an different instructor ‘clown’, and I thought that gave each scene it’s own style of scares: from Mrs Messy’s and Patty Patches’ creepy dressing room, to the shocking ‘stunt’ training by Mr Whoopsie. A trio of carnies instruct the art of managing deadly games, with loud and startling effects.
The scenes often take a surreal turn, whether it’s with its morbidly vibrant design, or the unusual transitions that simulates walking in and out of tents in a carnival. There are surprises littered in many scenes, including a few fakeout moments, making this house quite a fun one even for HHN regulars. And just when you thought the nightmare has ended at graduation, there’s a few more corridors punishing you for your failure, and then a grim invitation to return.
Deranged clowns also make an appearance at the Haunted Halloween Carnival, completing thrill seekers’ encounters with the red-nosed killers this year.

But before you can meet her for class, a dead ventriloquist’s puppet comes alive – taunting you.
You meet the instructor herself, who has also prepared a giant puppet to surprise you.

In every class, there are rules. Make sure you find them and follow them, if you hope to survive.
