From 12 July to 17 Sept 2024, the Impressions of Monet: The Garden will be showing at the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. Accompanying this floral display, the Impressions of Monet: The Experience exhibition is also held in the Flower Dome for a limited time. No official closing date is announced for the exhibition yet.

Impressions of Monet: The Garden floral display

Start off with a stunning island garden that reimagines Monet’s Water Lilies and Water Garden, complete with the iconic bridge in the landscape.

The overall landscaping and heavy use of hydrangeas to simulate impressionism looks amazing. It’s a very strong start – perhaps one of the best gardens at this area of the Flower Dome.

The main Flower Field also looks very different with the addition of new trees.

From the back, you can explore Monet’s Flower Garden, and even a part of his house in Giverny.

Walk through a few rooms in this mini house, along with another in the middle of the main field.

The shapes of the plants on display also offer a more dimensional viewing experience, especially with the towering spikes of Foxgloves that dot the landscape.

You can cross another bridge and marvel at two other lily ponds on one side of the main Flower Field.

And now you can see Monet’s house in full view, complete with the pink facade. You can step inside, too.

Inside the “main house” is another two spaces combining famous design choices in Monet’s Home, such as a blue kitchen – adorned with Japanese art prints and copper cooking pans.

One of my favourite spots in this display is a pocket garden on the side, which is somewhat inspired by Monet’s Flower Garden.

After walking through the floral display, continue your journey into the exhibition at the Flower Field Hall.

Impressions of Monet: The Experience (exhibition galleries)

Impressions of Monet: The Experience exhibition is included with all tickets to the Flower Dome from 12 July until the date that the exhibition closes. There is no separate ticketing option and visitors can re-enter the exhibition area again during their visit in the Flower Dome.

Located across from the Main Flower Field, Impressions of Monet: The Experience is a multi-sensory exhibition about the life and art of Claude Monet, along with his contemporaries like Renoir, Manet, Pissarro and Degas, and more.

The showcase starts off with a bit of a history lesson, but it’s a visual one where the most famous works are brought into the spotlight.

The next section features reproductions of Monet’s most famed works, including the Water Lilies.

Of course, this portrait frame, overflowing with preserved blooms, is the most captivating feature of The Experience. Be prepared to queue if you want that perfect photo.

Go into the portrait and you’ll find yourself Beneath the Flowerbed.

Transitioning from day to night, this thematic area is a dream-like space into the night. You can also take a photo with Monet’s famous green bridge among the stars.

Another portrait frame portal brings you into the next area, Night at the Lily Pond

In this small space, sit down and relax among the lilies as the water glimmers in the moonlight.

Go further down and you’ll find yourself in an expansive area for the Immersive Gallery, where you can enjoy distinct multi-sensory experiences through the eyes of Impressionist painters from 19th century Europe.

This is definitely not as immersive as the competition, and the presentation style with such walls is probably akin to the pioneer generation of immersive experiences (the original Van Gogh Alive! at Marina Bay Sands). Nonetheless, it’s still enjoyable – plus you didn’t have to pay extra charge to see this.

One of the shows is more futuristic in nature, syncing teamLab-like animations of blooming flowers with the ceiling lights of Flower Field Hall.

Complete your Impressions of Monet – bring home a souvenir at the exit. This shop is located within the Flower Dome.

The main gift shop outside of Flower Dome do not stock any items from the exhibition, so be sure to have a look here before leaving.

New Attraction in Cloud Forest: The Hidden Forest

The Hidden Forest is another new attraction that has recently opened at the Cloud Forest. This is a digital experience created in collaboration with NAKED, INC from Japan – which is known for projection mapping shows and experiences.

This new attraction replaces much of the Crystal Mountain area at Level 4.

While The Hidden Forest is meant to be an interactive, educational attraction, the actual experience inside is more akin to a children’s playground given how the space is designed. Nonetheless, it’s great that the Gardens is making an effort to update its offerings, given that the Crystal Mountain area has been “dormant” for a while, until major works were done to integrate the Ikran encounter exhibit for AVATAR: The Experience.

The upcoming displays this year are Carnival of Flowers (from September), and Christmas Train Show (from November).
