Sunflower Surprise at Gardens by the Bay

Visit The Land of Oz at Gardens by the Bay’s newest Floral Display, Sunflower Surprise.

With over 50 varieties spread over a bewildering 10,000+ sunflowers, this display might as well be Sunflower Spectacular.

It’s a fun floral display that taps on The Wizard of Oz theme, with some key characters and scenes, although the masses of sunflowers got repetitive after a while.

Playing in the air of the Flower Dome are memorable tunes from that famous The Wizard of Oz film. I guess you can also belt out songs from the musical Wicked which most people nowadays are more familiar with.

The centrepiece of the display is the Castle of Emerald City.

Step inside to be surrounded by a glimmering landscape that is also perfect backdrops for portraits.

Is this the surprise?

For Sunflower Surprise, the front section of the flower field is reconfigured into a one-way route. It goes through the castle and through the likely very-popular Yellow Brick Road scene.

Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow-brick road!

You’re off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz!

Like in the film and books, the Wizard is a letdown, but fear not – there are great spots for photos here, especially if you want to look totally surrounded with sunflowers.

At the end, make your escape with the Sunflower Hot Air Balloon!
