Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest mountain waterfall

Orchid Haven is a newly revamped section in the Cloud Forest cooled conservatory. Launched on 30 July 2021, it took over a rather quiet area in the first level of the conservatory, behind the iconic ‘mountain’.

Usually, most visitors will turn right at this junction and cross a metal bridge – because there was “nothing much” on the left. Not anymore.

Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest Orchid Haven first area

As the name suggests, this new area will be dedicated to orchid displays – permanent and rotating. Think of it as the Flower Field in Flower Dome. But only for Orchids.

The first orchid display is the Flight of the Moth Orchid – for the Phalaenopsis orchids that are shaped like moths in flight. Over 800 orchids are showcased at this section, with a spectacular swirling cascade of blooms. The Gardens call it “breathtaking waterfall”.

Indeed it is breathtaking – and many visitors couldn’t stop taking selfies here. Do note that masks need to be worn at all times at the Gardens – there are ambassadors here to remind (or in some cases ‘catch’ – I did see them managing a difficult visitor who stubbornly flouted the rules with attempted ‘maskless selfies’).

While the moth orchids collectively form a grand display, there are also smaller orchid exhibits that can be found in the area.

There’s this large empty area – which perhaps may be used for larger displays, Orchid Shows, or other activities. No ramp access here, so visitors with prams and wheelchairs are asked to U-Turn to exit.

But of course, anyone can sit on the bench and enjoy the terrace waterfalls.

Mid-Autumn Festival at Gardens by the Bay

Lantern displays are returning to the Gardens, and I’ve got first sight of these cute rabbits that have discovered the Succulent Garden and Baobab Trees sections in the Flower Dome.

There will also be some community lantern displays, such as the Origami Crane Trees which feature some 2,000 handfolded origami cranes forming a rainbow.

Gardens by the Bay will be holding the Mid-Autumn Festival event from 15 Sept to 3 Oct, with displays happening both in Flower Dome and in the Outdoor Gardens. Speaking of outdoors, the Children’s Festival featuring Art-Zoo Wonder Gardens is also open from now till 3 Oct 2021, filling the Supertree Grove with giant inflatable animals.

Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom – September Update

The Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom (or just Chihuly in Bloom) display in Flower Dome received an update on 1 Sept: Chrysanthemums.

These vibrant blooms add a golden touch to the field, lending contrast to the glass sculptures that are more white, pink and purple.

Shake Shack opens at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay Shake Shack interior counter

Gardens by the Bay is now home to the seventh Shake Shack restaurant in Singapore, taking over the retail space where Bakerzin and another Gardens souvenir shop once stood long ago. This new addition, along with the newly open Starbucks, is making the Gardens an even more attractive lifestyle destination.

The restaurant features a heavy tropical theme, with hanging bursts of greens and blooms – very apt for the Gardens that it now calls home.

Eagle-eyed Shack fans will notice the two exclusive concretes on the menu: Berries by the Bay and Tropic Like It’s Hot. Perfect after a fruitful walk around the Bay South Gardens.
