Step into a dazzling showcase of orchids at Gardens by the Bay’s Orchid Extravaganza – the latest floral display at Flower Dome. As part of the Singapore Garden Festival 2014, the display features 18,000 orchid plants, with many remarkable prize-winning specimens.
The first area of Flower Dome is now home to these tall teepees. Constructed with white bamboo, they are all adorned with colourful streams of orchids.
With the Singapore Garden Festival happening at Gardens by the Bay, expect the Flower Dome to be more crowded than usual.
The main attraction is of course, at the flower field.

This floral display is designed by award-winning landscape architect Jun-ichi Inada. The overall aesthetic of landscape minimalism is subtle (overlapping lines and curves), given the wildly vibrant flowers everywhere.

The main attraction is the Orchid Kaleidoscope – a tower of white bamboo with streaks of orchids running diagonally. This is also the tallest structure to be ever built at the Flower Dome so far.

But step inside…
And marvel at this grand, almost orchestral, array of orchids.
It is a marvelous sight, as if the orchids form a conduit into the sky.
Of course, the Kaleidoscope tower has a limited capacity, so be prepared for a short wait during crowded hours of the day.
Right next to the tower is a gigantic specimen of the Tiger Orchid. It flowers once every few years.
A perfect flourish.
One of the more exquisite orchids on display is this Dendrobium usitae (Red Coral). Its tiny flowers grows from the stems without spikes.
Surrounding the white tower – a tranquil Orchid Tunnel.
The path behind the main Flower Field, the outer ring, is open once again.
Even more prize-winning orchids to see at the back here. But do be patient, because everyone wants to snap photos.
Apart from exquisite floral sights to see, there are certainly many opportunities to spot rare photographic equipment. For example: This photographer and his Leica M Typ-240 and a Macro-Elmar 90mm f/4 (and of course, the Macro-Adapter-M).
There is just an incredible quantity of amazing orchids along the path. I think I took at least half an hour just to walk through this section.

In my opinion, this floral display is definitely one of the best at Gardens by the Bay so far.

Orchid Extravaganza is now on display at the Flower Dome till 21 September 2014. The Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) 2014 is happening concurrently at Gardens by the Bay, until 26 August. Click here for more information.
