The Legend of Lady White Snake comes alive in floral art in the Spring Blossoms 2025 floral display at Gardens by the Bay.
Spring Blossoms: Lunar New Year at the Gardens by the Bay
Inspired by the Legend of the White Snake, this floral display brings the fantasy folklore and beauty of Chinese gardens into the Flower Dome.
Once you step in, you will see a recreation of the Jixian Pavilion from Hangzhou – the place where the love story between the snake spirit (Bai Suzhen, Madam White Snake) and a mortal Man Xu Xian, begins.
It’s a bit hard to see, but a mix of pink, orange, and yellow blossoms adorn the roofs of the Pavilion.
The Pavilion also has a mini replica of the Duanqiao (Broken Bridge), where the couple meets at another point of the story.
At the heart of the Flower Field stands a magnificent 4.5-meter-tall living sculpture of Madam White Snake, inspired by the look of the character from Chinese Opera renditions of this beloved tale. It is painstakingly crafted using mosaiculture – the technique of using plants to create living sculptures.
This floral display is also a collaborative effort with leading Chinese landscaping company, Beijing Florascape. The company had previously created large 3D floral installations at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, and the annual National Day floral displays at Tiananmen Square.
Surrounding Madam White Snake is a beautiful garden of Dahlias, including this stunning bi-coloured Rebecca’s World:
Dahlia fans will of course be delighted to find other vibrant blooms all around the Flower Field, including a handful of new varieties making their debut. In total, over a thousand dahlias grown in-house are showcased at this floral display.
The eye-catching Autumn Sunburst can be found near one of the pavilions in the Flower Field.
Across the Madam White Snake sculpture (and the bridge splitting the field) is a replica of Leifeng Pagoda. In the story, Madam White Snake was trapped in the pagoda as punishment for loving a mortal man. Within this particular replica at the Gardens, you can view some pagoda exhibits loaned from the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM). For a limited time, your ticket to the Flower Dome also offers you free admission to the exhibition at ACM.
A giant snake body flows around the field like a sweeping mountain – cleverly constructed with a mix of flowers carefully selected to allude to the texture and appearance – such as using orchids to mimic the scales.
As you walk around the giant snake, don’t miss some of the other showcases on the side, including this entire bowl filled with stunning purple chrysanthemums.
The back section of the Flower Field features picturesque landscape of a misty river, with miniature buildings decked out in Lunar New Year decorations.
Other displays here include a wall of red lanterns, and a serene tea ceremony display, complete with soothing flowing waters.
At the other side of the Flower Field, you can find a sculpture of the Green Snake Xiaoqing, curling on the roofs. This beautifully-landscaped section of the garden would offer stunning photo opportunities.
And there is one last photo spot at the end towards the exit, at this moon gate with stone lions and spring couplets.
