Dejiki’s Review of Harry Potter: Visions of Magic
This immersive art experience is the closest thing to a Wizarding World area in Singapore, as it’s unlikely that there will ever be one built at Universal Studios Singapore.
Wand “magic” is the very heart of the experience, keeping guests in a constant gameplay loop of discovering “traces of magic” as they explore themed spaces in this 60-90-minute experience. The wand experience fared better than those in Wizarding World(s) of Harry Potter in Universal Studios theme parks – probably because it emits a light for the sensors, in controlled indoor environments.
The Singapore edition is expands on earlier editions in Germany and Belgium with two new environments for the Asia Premiere: The Chamber of Secrets and The Trap Door. These two rooms also have some of the “wow” moments – from the moving snakes unlocking the door to The Chamber of Secrets, to casting Lumos Solem in a cave to unravel the Devil’s Snare. Ron Weasley would have said, “That was bloody brilliant!”
As fun and engaging Visions of Magic can be, remember that this is not the same as the Harry Potter: The Exhibition, nor the Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter in London and Tokyo. These exhibitions are based on the films, while Visions of Magic is inspired by the Wizarding World franchise on the whole. So don’t expect props, costumes, and filmmaking exhibits at Harry Potter: Visions of Magic. Nonetheless, many elements are familiar, as they are based on the same source material.

Arrival
The Experience is held at Resorts World Sentosa, specifically at The Forum (B1) – just seconds away from the taxi drop off point and Casino entrance. After you walk through the entrance, you will be transported from the resort to the exhibition foyer.
After scanning your tickets, you can collect the Vision of Magic wands – on loan to you throughout your experience. The wands are all the same.
Interactive Wands from Universal Studios Theme Parks are not usable at Harry Potter: Visions of Magic.
With your wand in hand, you can snap a souvenir photo, before heading into the preshow area.
After the preshow, the host will demonstrate how to use the wand properly throughout the experience. Essentially, find the “traces of magic” – either by an emblem or floating wisp. You then need to point the wand and press the indent on the wand, to reveal the magic.
Then everyone has a few minutes to try it out, before being led to the Knight Bus.
The Knight Bus
With wands swishing into the air, the Knight Bus stirs to life, transporting you around the city.
It’s bigger on the inside!
From this point onwards, you are free to explore the exhibition at your own pace.
Grimmauld Place
The Knight Bus drops you off at 12 Grimmauld Place, the ancestral home of the Black Family, and headquarters (for a time) for the Order of the Phoenix. You can use your wand to uncover the family tree, and interact with the lights and portraits.
Ministries of Magic
Next stop: The Ministries of Magic. Within minutes, you will be transported to the Ministries in New York, London and Paris.
Each ministry has secrets waiting to be discovered, all it takes is Revelio.
The Hall of Prophecy
You are brought back to the British Ministry of Magic, and into the Hall of Prophecy, where glowing orbs contain secretive whispers of the future yet to be.
Point your wand to hear the prophecies.
The Chamber of Secrets
In this all-new environment, uncover the warnings hidden in the walls (“Enemies of the Heir…”), and brace yourself as the Chamber of Secrets is unlocked.
Quite literally, the snake door is fully operational, with the seven snakes moving as another makes a circle. It’s a stunning special effect – just no Parseltongue needed now.
Now in the actual chamber, danger lurks as the Basilisk is moving around, made more haunting with the imposing statue of Salazar Slytherin and gigantic snake statues that are all interactive. Don’t miss Tom Riddle’s diary in this chamber.
Newt’s Menagerie
Escape from the terrifying chamber and into Newt’s Menagerie, where fascinating magical creatures roam free. Traces of magic can be found all around the spaces and inside Newt’s suitcase which is floating.
Knockturn Alley
You now have a rare chance to explore Knockturn Alley, a shady street known for its shops devoted to the Dark Arts.
Eerie secrets can be discovered in the haunting shopfronts.
Numerous Daily Prophet issues, haphazardly plastered on the walls, warn of Death Eater sightings. Look up into the sky and reveal the Dark Mark, if you dare.
Venture inside Borgin and Burkes to find one of the paired Vanishing Cabinets.
The Room of Requirement
The Vanishing Cabinet transports you into The Room of Requirement, with towers of objects all over.
This room also has one of the most traces of magic – so keep your wands ready to illuminate the secrets.
Even the Mirror of Erised can be found here – showing some of the iconic characters’ deepest desires.
A few notable items can be found in the Room of Requirement: Diadem of Ravenclaw, Monster Book of Monsters, Slughorn’s Hourglass, The Sorting Hat, a Golden Snitch, the Triwizard Cup, and even the Giant Wizards’ Chess Knight Piece for your “If I make my move…” moment.
Plus also, the Harp, which is important for the next room.
The Trap Door
Another Singapore-exclusive, The Trap Door brings you through some of the trials that the trio had to survive in order to find the Sorcerer’s Stone (or Philosopher’s Stone).
After putting Fluffy to sleep, you will have to unravel the Devil’s Snare, using Lumos Solem on the traces of magic.
It’s quite a stunning effect that can’t be captured in photos – stay tuned for my YouTube video.
Surviving the Devil’s Snare challenge will bring you to the Winged Keys, enchanted by Professor Flitwick to guard the stone.
The Pensieve
The Visions of Magic concludes with an immersive projection show, where you can witness key moments from Harry’s journey in Hogwarts.
That of course, includes the showdown between Harry Potter and Voldemort.
The show concludes with a beautiful vista of Hogwarts, and you can summon even more fireworks with your wand.
After this, you have to turn in your wand, and leave through the Ministries of Magic scene (a bit odd, but I suppose they need a way to bring people back “upstairs”).
And that concludes the Harry Potter: Visions of Magic experience. Time for you to Accio wallet for the next segment.
Retail Shop at Harry Potter: Visions of Magic Singapore
Welcome to Harry Potter: Visions of Magic-al Shopping!
An extraordinarily wide range of goods can be found at the Harry Potter: Visions of Magic Singapore retail shop.
Seemingly hundreds of items are available, split between Visions of Magic- and Wizarding World-branded items.
The shop also has this attractive centerpiece.
Visions of Magic-specific items include this beautiful collection inspired by Grimmauld Place.
There are of course, extensive goods themed to the four houses at Hogwarts.
Some uncommon items, such as this rather modern looking Hogwarts design, are also available.
There are also some uncommon themed collection, such as Death Eaters, Deathly Hallows, and even Butterbeer.
A wide variety of Fantastic Beasts goods are also available.
The Singapore exclusive range features stylised artwork from the eight environments.
Be sure to admire the replica Black Family Tree tapestry while you shop.
After leaving this shop, you will end up in… another shop that’s part of The Butterbeer Cafe.
The Butterbeer Cafe
Rounding up the themed experience – you can enjoy some Butterbeer (Draft and Slushie versions available).
Grab some themed macarons and cupcakes to go along with the Butterbeer, which is available in Draught (S$10) and Frozen Slush (S$12). A plastic souvenir tankard is also available at S$15, but it does not include the drink itself.
If you’ve forgotten to grab a souvenir, you have one final chance here – how convenient!
This retail space is also open to non-ticket holders, so you can get a taster (literally) before getting tickets for the full experience. Note that same-day tickets are subject to availability – you are recommended to book early to avoid disappointment.
