Enjoy joyful sights and lush landscapes of spring inspired by Australia’s biggest flower show, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, at Gardens by the Bay’s very own Carnival of Flowersfloral display. Also, check out the Gardens by the Bahay Kubo A Fiesta of Orchids which features vibrant orchids found in the Philippines.
Carnival of Flowers floral display
From 23 Sept to 17 Nov 2024, the Carnival of Flowers will be showing at the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. This is the first Australian-themed floral display, and it features over 30 varieties of plants, including exotic species native to Australia.
You can get your tickets to Gardens by the Bay’s iconic attractions using my Pelago link or Klook link! These purchases can help to support my site and content coverage, at no cost to you.
The display begins with the Genestreaming Journey Sculpture, which features aboriginal art from the Bunya Mountains and field naturalist art from the Art of Nature School in the pieces, highlighting connections between these locations and Boyce Gardens Toowoomba.
The main “carnival” takes place at the Flower Field.
Floral floats created with preserved flowers can be found around the field, a nod to the parade that’s part of the Toowoomba Carnival in Australia.
One highlight is a tractor overflowing with honeycombs and plush bees.
Another whimsical display showcases a farmers’ market with baskets of harvest spiraling into the air
Over in the central part of the field, life-sized kangaroos gather in front of a house in the countryside.
Colourful ornaments decorate the house’s exterior, along with many other parts of the display. These are all painted by students from our local Canberra Primary School and Rangeville State School in Australia.
The Ferris Wheel and Carousel are two “attractions” fit right in with the carnival soundtrack playing constantly in the background. But it’s only the flowers that can go on these rides!
This display also brings in some plants from Australia, such as kangaroo paw, Yellow tails, and strawflower, to name a few.
There are also small pocket gardens filled with more Aboriginal art pieces.
At the end, don’t miss this display which features mini floral parade floats designed by young student artists!
Gardens by the Bahay Kubo: A Fiesta of Orchids at Orchid Haven
From Sept 2024 to Jan 2025, enjoy a new display featuring orchids and cultural heritage from the Philippines, at Gardens by the Bahay Kubo: A Fiesta of Orchids in the Cloud Forest.
Anchoring the main display area is a Bahay Kubo, a traditional stilt house, decorated with other cultural items on display.
The display extends to another section of the Cloud Forest (walk up the steps), where you can also discover more flora and fauna from the Philippines.
