Gardens by the Bay’s latest floral display, War of the Roses, has filled its Flower Dome with thousands of roses. Witness a spectacular battle of colours!
When I first heard the name of this month’s theme, I thought it was a war of rose bouquets for Valentine’s – fueled by competitive girlfriends. Actually, this display is inspired by historic battles in England between the House of York and House of Lancester. Roses were part of the emblems for each house (Red rose for House of Lancester, White rose for House of York).
For now, we have armoured knights riding on wooden horses. One of them guards the first area of Flower Dome!
Even if this floral interpretation of the war does not excite you, I’m sure colourful roses would.
I suppose the park wanted the roses to be accompanied by royalty and beauties.
According to a Trail Map (scroll down for more info on that), there is a blue rose at the Flower Field. If you could find it, please post a comment!
The Two Towers – one at each end of the Flower Field.
Workers put their final touches to the main “Field of War”.
Two knights on galloping horses, charging at each other.
There are just many bursts of roses surrounding the battle. More excitement on the ground.
Another scene depicted near the exit of the Flower Dome. Several pots of nicely coordinated colours!
War of the Roses will be on display from now till 6 April 2014. Grab a free trail map (A Tale of Roses) at the Gardens because it could make your walk through the fields of roses enlightening and fun!
The popular Tulipmania will return this year. Check out last year’s Tulipmania. The tulips will be back at the Flower Dome from 14 April 2014. Mark your calendars!
