Enjoy adorable lantern displays that bring back the joys of childhood playtime around Gardens by the Bay‘s 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival event.
Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 at Gardens by the Bay
From 4 to 22 September 2024, Gardens by the Bay’s outdoor gardens are ready to delight with charming lanterns designed by illustrator Kow Fong (Ah Guo). Each scene brings back nostalgic joy with Ah Guo’s characters such as Kiddo, rabbits, a penguin, and an original character Bin Bin created for the Gardens. Apart from lantern walking around the Gardens, you can also enjoy performances, fun activities, carnival rides and street food around the pop-up marketplace and carnival.
All lantern and floral displays featured in this article can be viewed for free. For more details on the festival programme and activities, visit the official website.
2024 Mid-Autumn Lantern Walking Route around Gardens by the Bay
If you are entering Gardens by the Bay from the Bayfront Plaza (e.g. Marina Bay Sands and Bayfront MRT underpass), I have a recommended route to enjoy the lights with minimal backtracking. While the lanterns are lit from 6PM to 10PM daily, it is best to arrive around 7PM to enjoy the displays when it is darker. This route will take about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace.
First, from Bayfront Plaza, head to Dragonfly Lake to see the floating Celebrations display, with a majestic full moon, flowing waves, paper boats, plus mooncakes and gem biscuits.
Head towards The Meadow, and along the way you can find some smaller lantern displays that you can take photos with.
At the Meadow, take a break to marvel at the double-storey carousel and small rides, plus a lane of old-school carnival games. (Activities are separately charged.)
The next display, Bubbles Bliss is right beside that.
Continue walking towards Supertree Grove, while viewing these small cute lanterns that are inspired by nostalgic designs.
There are several displays at Supertree Grove – the first is the Colourful Blossoms arch where you can stand right under for a beautiful shot.
The next display, Wishes Beneath The Moonlight, features a design inspired by the Pelican playground that used to be found at the HDB estate in Dover.
Perhaps the most iconic display is the Dragon Playground – this is a life-sized replica of the heritage playground that is still standing at Toa Payoh town.
It is perhaps one of the closest replicas!
The tallest lanterns can also be found at Supertree Grove, titled Vertical Mid-Autumn.
Adding a twisat to the childhood play theme: Joyful Childhood Memories Folk Games from Korea showcases three children’s folk games. These lanterns are also crafted from Hanji, a type of traditional Korean paper.
A new Flower Carpet is also showcased at this event from 4 to 15 September 2024. The design is inspired by the Dragon Playground.
The best view is from OCBC Skyway’s second Supertree (the exit). The OCBC Skyway is an attraction that is separately charged.
Do note that OCBC Skyway closes at 9PM (last admission: 8:30PM), and the ticketing booth at Gardens by the Bay closes much earlier. To avoid disappointment, buy your tickets ahead and head to the queue early, as the waiting time is usually a lot longer after sunset.
Separately, Garden Rhapsody shows are held at 7:45PM and 8:45PM. These shows affect the big lantern display and Flower Carpet viewing experiences as the lights are temporarily switched off for the entire duration of Garden Rhapsody.

You can also view the Flower Carpet from the ground, or the new viewing gallery specially built for this. There is a queue set up for this but the line moves briskly.
I think it’s not high enough to see the carpet’s design properly.
The Colonnade of Lights is a returning display – this has been a staple for Mid-Autumn, where you can walk under 1,000 paper lanterns created by the community.
Finally, walk around The Shophouse at the Golden Garden. This area is Gardens by the Bay’s main drop off point, and you can also find McDonalds and Starbucks near by.
There are also several archways where you can walk through an alley filled with more adorable stalls (and stallholders).
And that’s the end of the walking tour, you can easily leave the Gardens from the nearby pick-up point, Carpark, or walk over to Marina Bay Sands or the Bayfront MRT station.
