Tulipmania is back at Gardens by the Bay! The third edition weaves some 40 variety of tulips into colourful scenes depicting classic fairy tales. Check out the floral display in this photo tour!
Tulipmania is one of the most popular floral displays at the Flower Dome – it is back for the third consecutive year. You can look back at last year’s edition that brought the Netherlands (and Miffy) into Singapore. And there was a much simpler Tulipmania back in 2013.
In line with this year’s concept of stories coming alive, Tulipmania 2015 uses a cornucopia of tulips and hyacinths to portray classic fairy tales.
The Flower Field is dominated by a colourful Gingerbread house.
Suits of Armour and an ornate gate greets guests when they enter the Flower Dome.
Let’s head down to the Flower Field.
I’ll say this first. The Gingerbread house is distracting, and its mostly flat, printed construction does nothing but cheapen the look of the flower field.
The other parts of the flower field fared better, though to be honest, can’t quite hold a candle to last year’s design.
The tulips feel like they are just part of the backdrop, instead of being the main attraction.
Props and decor from past floral displays were creatively reused, though. If you visit the flower dome regularly, you’ll quickly point them out.
The Snow Queen
The idea of using fairy tales to theme attractions is as old as day, but we rarely see an adaptation of it into a lush, vibrant garden – especially in Singapore.
The Gardens got the timing right this year, with most of the tulips in full bloom during the opening weekend. A huge improvement from past editions.
Over 40 varieties are planted this year, though a certain type (known as Purple Prince) flooded the floral display with bright violet patches.
Curiously, there are some bulbs that don’t quite belong. Another interesting activity would be to spot these at the flower dome.
Tulipmania (2015) is showing at the Flower Dome in Gardens by the Bay, from now till 10 May 2015.
