On 28th May 2011, the park celebrated its grand opening. I was back at the park a year later, but it was an ordinary day. Unlike other major theme parks, there were no “First Anniversary” events here, but the park recently announced some new attractions.

Let’s take a look at what’s been happening at the Marine Life Park. Please refer to the first entry for more information about the park.
Last year, a new craze has set Singaporeans queuing for hours. The new obsession is Soya beancurd dessert – a simple, custard pudding that is sweet, light and your best friend during a hot day (which is almost every other day in Singapore) – a bowl for just $1.50. One of the most famous is Lao Ban Soya Beancurd, which has gotten so popular that it expanded out of their first Old Airport Road stall and spawned several competitors. It is not uncommon to see happy people walking out of the hawker centre with tall bags, holding not less than 5 bowls each, looking as if they’ve won the lottery or just completed their Honours Thesis at NUS.
With more competitors and the novelty fading, Lao Ban’s stalls do not draw queues as crazy-long as before – there are still queues during peak periods though. Also, there is an increasing number of people making their own at home.
A few weeks ago I posted an update about the new water cannons at Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure. They weren’t working back then.
I revisited the park on 17th April and both cannons were up and running!
Now that Universal Studios Singapore is more or less complete, let’s take a look at Marine Life Park. Featured in this update: Aerial photos of the park under construction.
Previously known as Equarius Water Park, Marine Life Park is set to be the world’s largest Oceanarium and offers thrilling and fun water rides.

Universal Studios Singapore – Update 01/2012

After its lengthy maintenance and enhancement works, Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure has finally reopened – ready to pit guests right into the dangerous gaping jaws of dinosaurs and push them over the edge… into a soaking splash.
Unique to Universal Studios Singapore is a river rafting edition of Jurassic Park’s popular adventure rides. The other three Jurassic Park rides are known as “River Adventures”. While Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure lack the dramatic, breathtaking vistas and an elaborate indoor segment that River Adventures are well-known for, it makes up with unpredictable and thrilling rafting maneuvers. The ride was closed from 10 August 2011 till 20 January 2012 for extended refurbishment.
So anyway, this comprehensive update entry features a photo tour of the queue, loading area and splashdown of this attraction, as well as a list of changes that I have observed (to the best of my ability).
Boogie Countdown 2012 was Universal Studios Singapore’s first large-scale countdown event. Guests could enjoy the park’s attractions and special entertainment throughout the night. Last year’s event was known as “Countdown 2011 Resorts World Sentosa” and had half the park’s attractions operating. It was a closed event for Resorts World Sentosa’s partners and clients.
The park celebrated the oldies with hit tunes from the ’60s ~ ’90s played through the park’s speakers around Hollywood and New York Zone, and special themed performances. Other attractions remained unchanged, and there were no additional decorations beyond the Hollywood and New York Zone.
Earlier in the evening, park guests could also enjoy the first public performance of Hollywood Dreams Parade.
Universal Studios Singapore launched Hollywood Dreams Parade on 31 December 2011. This is the park’s first permanent parade show and will be a regularly performed on the evenings of weekends and public holidays.
