In Tokyo Disneyland, you can meet Mickey Mouse… at his house! Welcome to Toontown at Tokyo Disneyland, a land filled with attractions based on Mickey Mouse & Friends, as well as a Roger Rabbit’s wild adventures.
During my past trips in the previous decade, I bypassed this area. It’s Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, then Tomorrowland.
I always thought of Toontown as the playground, or playzone of Disneyland – with nothing spectacular.
Well, during this trip, as I wanted to explore the park in its entirety (and write about it), we went in here a few times. To my surprise, I enjoyed something very much here, but it’s not in Mickey’s Toontown. It’s at the other side, based on Roger Rabbit.
Donald’s Boat was overtaken by several children (who kept ringing the bell over and over). There is a unique attraction in this area called Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Playhouse, a kiddy shooting attraction which we gave a miss because the wait time was very long and we’d feel out of place in the queue.
We did go on Gadget’s Go Coaster, which was thrilling (for a kiddy coaster) but not so enjoyable in the sun. The queue was also not covered. I was relieved to finally reach the loading platform, not because we’re going on the ride very soon, but because it was sheltered.
We gave the attractions a miss due to immense crowds.
The rest of the “Mickey’s & Friends’ Toon Town” are some building facades that make great photo spots.
We stopped by Huey, Dewey and Louie’s Good Time Cafe for a mid-morning snack.
There’s quite a wide selection. Have a look at the menu for Huey, Dewey and Louie’s Good Time Cafe.
Lots of 30th Anniversary Specials, but we stayed to something that we haven’t tried (well..) Have a guess before scrolling down.
We ordered Mickey Pizza. It was rather popular. Of course, other than its shape, it’s just normal pizza. Thankfully not as dry as some other theme parks.
The other side of Toontown is quite wacky. It revolves around Roger Rabbit (from the “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” film) and of course, there is a ride: Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin.
A Roger Rabbit Fountain around the area. Anyway it might interest some people that this entire Toontown is the only other one in the world. The other Toontown is at the original Disneyland. Toontown’s layout has been mirrored for Tokyo Disneyland.
There are some surprises in this whimsical area, such as this fireworks factory.
There is a decent store in the area, called Gag Factory.
There are moving props (gloves holding parts for gags) running about in this incredibly themed shop.
Even the pressed coin machine is beautifully themed!
The actual goods sold at the store however, are not. It’s mostly the same 30th Anniversary and Summer items available everywhere else (sigh…)
I prefer the style of this section of Toontown – bright colours splashed onto uninhibited forms.
But the star of Toontown is this dark ride: Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. The ride façade already looks so exciting with a cab bursting out. More about it in the next entry!
