Haw Par Villa’s Halloween event is back from the dead. Haw Ror Villa 5 returns to Hell’s Museum this October and November with four scare zones, a one-way route, and a look at some spaces in the park the public rarely sees. Here’s what to expect.
Haw Ror Villa 5: What’s Different This Year
Last year, Haw Ror Villa 4 was billed as Haw Par Villa‘s final Halloween event. So it is fitting that this year’s edition comes with the subtitle Back From The Dead.
In the new story, set one year after Haw Ror Villa 4, Haw Par Villa has seemingly been abandoned and closed to the public, until guests discover that Hell’s Museum has been open all along. That isn’t far from the truth. Large parts of Haw Par Villa have been closed for major renovation works since December 2025, and the park’s management has been handed back to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). Journeys, which developed and operated Hell’s Museum and ran the previous Haw Ror Villa events, was asked to keep the museum running, since it still offers visitors a glimpse of Haw Par Villa. That is how Haw Ror Villa 5 came about. This year’s event is centred on Hell’s Museum and some of the areas around it.
With only the museum and its surrounds open, Haw Ror Villa 5 feels smaller than last year. The Rise of Asia Museum, which housed last year’s full haunted house, is not part of the event this time, and the layout now runs as a one-way route through four zones. That said, the organisers have promised a range of activities for different kinds of visitors, from paranormal hunters, families, and those looking for a good scream.
The premise picks up from last year’s cult storyline. Mysterious letters have been inviting people back to the park with promises of unimaginable riches, the delights of the flesh, or fame, and you have received one too. Your night unfolds across four scare zones, each a connected chapter in the story, and the event has grown to 22 nights, up from 13 last year.
The history element runs strong throughout, as always. The story of the Aw brothers and the Tiger Balm Garden is woven into the experience, and there are history panels dotted around that fill in the background of the park. Even though the guided tour has its fictitious moments, they are grounded in real events and history.

Photo Tour: Haw Ror Villa 5 at Hell’s Museum
Note: These photos from the media preview do not represent the full range of ‘spirits’ that will roam at Haw Ror Villa 5 and the scare zones’ fully spooked-up appearance.
Zone 1: Guide to Sin City
Vices, Punishments and Rewards
Guide to Sin City is where the night begins. Your guide sets up the story, and it is not long before the Hungry Ghost makes an appearance with a song.
He launches into a parody of “I Will Survive”, except his version has a twist: he did not survive.
From there, the tour moves on to the entrance of Hell’s Museum, where another ghostly spirit is waiting to greet you. It is the last encounter before you step inside and the night takes a darker turn.
Zone 2: Gateway to Hell
An Interactive Puzzle Hunt
Gateway to Hell takes you on a walkthrough around Hell’s Museum that continues into the Ten Courts of Hell, and this is the most intense part of the night. A puzzle hunt element runs throughout the guided tour, so keep an eye out for clues along the way.
The Ten Courts gallery has always been unsettling on its own, with its graphic depictions of punishment in the afterlife, so it is a natural fit for a haunted house. If you enjoyed the walkthroughs here over the past couple of years, this is familiar ground, and you can relive much the same experience again this year.
At the exit of the Ten Courts, you are met by Candy, a familiar face from last year, who appears to tempt and charm her way towards the guests.
Zone 3: The Haunted Labyrinth
An Eerie Maze Experience
The Haunted Labyrinth experience begins before you reach the maze itself. A guided tour segment leads you past the park’s outdoor amphitheatre and up into it, where you get to see the seating area and parts of the stage.
It is a space the public rarely gets to see, and it was the highlight of the night for many.
Here, you will learn that Haw Par Villa once had a boat ride that took visitors through the mouth of a giant dragon, past scenes from the Ten Courts of Hell. As the park declined and the ride closed, those scenes were moved to their present location and reworked as a walkthrough.
Our tour guide then led us somewhere no previous Haw Ror Villa event has gone. Past a few locked gates, we found ourselves in the dark underbelly of the park.
It came with a few surprises from the shadows.
The Haunted Labyrinth is set inside a pavilion that older visitors might remember as the park’s “café”. It has been cleared out and reworked into a maze. It is a compact, straightforward walk with a few scares, and not as big as last year’s maze in the Rise of Asia Museum.
Zone 4: The Point of No Return
The Realm of Scorched Souls
The Point of No Return earns its name from the way the event is laid out this year. With most of the park closed and space limited, Haw Ror Villa 5 runs as a one-way route. You move through the zones in order with no going back, and to leave, you have to pass through the final zone.
It opens around a temple, where a temple ghost waits, and the path ahead looks like it dead-ends before revealing the way out.
You also get one final look at the amphitheatre, seen here from the other side.
Just when you think the night is over, the way out runs through a short maze tucked beside the park’s substation. Your exit from Haw Ror Villa 5 comes with one last walk through somewhere into the unknown.
