Are you ready to descend into Singapore’s largest underground horror experience? Step into Underground: The Summoning and face your fears.
Underground: The Summoning
From 25 September to 3 November 2024, the Battlebox museum attraction (also known as Fort Canning bunker) will transform into a new horror-themed experience after dark. This is not a haunted house, but an interactive adventure in the bunker.
You can buy tickets for Underground: The Summmoning from EventBrite. Tickets are available at S$63.49 each, but with discounted rate for Groups of 4 and above (S$56.20 each). Timeslots are available every 30 minutes. You have to check-in at least 15 minutes before the chosen timing, and the attraction crew will group guests for the best experience inside.
The immersive horror experience draws upon the history of the bunker itself, weaving a terrifying narrative that unfolds within its haunted walls:
In the early days of 1942, Singapore faced an impending invasion. The defending forces were overwhelmed, and in a desperate gamble, the commanders turned to a forbidden ritual – a dark pact with Bellum, the demon of war.
However, Bellum was unpredictable. Its bloodthirsty minions, each embodying a different aspect of war’s horrors, demanded a terrible toll. As the ritual unraveled, these malevolent beings descended upon the underground bunker, tormenting those who had dared to summon them.
Your mission is to explore the bunker and gather eight enchanted cards that hold the power to break the ritual and banish Bellum. Work together with other survivors in your timeslot to navigate the harrowing corridors and face the horrifying demons that lurk within.
This is a thrilling blend of an interactive show, haunted house, and escape room. While there weren’t any complex puzzles to solve, the experience encouraged (guided) exploration.
The Fort Canning bunker, even without the added theatrics, is an unsettling place even at normal times. But with Underground now taking place within its walls, the eerie atmosphere is further amplified. Despite the pervasive darkness and suspense in the shadows, the space felt surprisingly safe to explore, thanks to guiding lights and watchful eyes of the attraction’s crew.
My underground adventure was a thrilling experience, filled with unexpected scares – because I’ve not actually been inside the “normal” Battlebox before this. The haunted house-style scares and the opportunity to explore the bunker in added theatrics added to the overall thrill. This World War II bunker, despite its age, is also fully air-conditioned – it was an unusually comfortable experience inside compared to most other haunted houses.
This immersive experience can last up to 45 minutes, but with a calm mind, you might emerge sooner. Take your time to explore the bunker and soak in the chilling atmosphere underground.
Special Thanks to Underground: The Summoning team for inviting me to the experience.
