How many times inversions can you experience on board the Cylon Raider? Find out more about the roller coaster and the mysterious voice inside the Cylon Basestar – an area in the Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs CYLON dueling roller coaster attraction at Universal Studios Singapore.
Hybrids are humanoids that control Cylon basestars. They are essentially the basestar, as they are wired so deeply into the entire ship. While the Hybrid cannot be seen in this particular basestar, her voice can be heard everywhere.
In the hallways enveloped by the walls of organic resin, you can hear the Hybrid’s voices. It is dark, like a cave, lit only with faint light from a few displays showing the Cylon Datastream – a mesmerising space where glowing orange glyphs endlessly weave.
Occasionally, two cylons, Number Six and Number One, would appear on displays andaddress their fellow brothers and sisters. That’s you.
“They call us toasters, skinjobs…”
“But we don’t hate them. They created us after all.”
One particular ‘artifact’ is displayed at the second level of the basestar, but it is easily missed. Inside this case is a nuclear warhead that Gaius Baltar gave to a particular humanoid Cylon.
Tip: You will need to watch both Season 1 and 2 of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica TV series to know what this item is all about.
A Centurion stands right in front of the loading platform. It hopes you are ready.
Which row to choose? Well, most of the time you will be guided to the next available row. But you can always ask*.
Obviously, the first row* would give you the best view of the battle. The last row would have the strongest g-forces throughout the ride and is a favourite among thrillseekers. If it’s your first time riding an inverted roller coaster, try requesting for seats at the second or third rows – the forces are more gentle.
*Note: There may be extra wait time for the first row and special requests for specific rows.

Unlike BSG: HUMAN, the CYLON side is powered by a Raider, a very agile spacecraft. As a suspended roller coaster, it often flies above the other train and offers a breathtaking bird’s eye view of Sci-Fi City and other zones of Universal Studios Singapore. This roller coaster also has five inversions. Simply put, it goes upside down many times.
The Five Inversions of BSG: CYLON
1 – Cobra Roll: After the first drop, the Raider flips upside down and curves to the right. Riders will be able to see the Colonial Viper next to them. After this brief respite, the train swerves into the second inversion.
2 – Cobra Roll: A near mirror-image of the first inversion. The track layout of the first two inversions resembles a cobra’s head. Hence the name, Cobra Roll.
3 – Inverted Corkscrew: After some banked turns chasing with the BSG:HUMAN (Colonial Viper) train, the Raider dives together with the Viper, but flips upside-down as it charges up a hill. The Viper swerves to the right. There is a quick moment of weightlessness. Depending on how you view this, some people also call this a half corkscrew.
4 – Vertical Loop: The Raider does a full inversion – 360-degrees. The loop goes around the launch track for both sides of the roller coaster. After this element, the Raider chases the Colonial Viper.
5 – Barrel Roll: Also known as an Inline Twist, the Raider spins clockwise as it surges forward. The train exits this element with a thrilling dive. It’s also known as a Zero Gravity Roll, although the zero-G on this is rather weak due to stronger lateral g-forces.
Boarding procedure:
1. Remove all loose items – glasses, hats and anything in pockets. Footwear can be removed as well. Keep everything at the shelves provided.
2. Sit back, pull down your the safety restraints and connect the belt buckle in front of you. If you’re lost (the downloading process should be glitch free…), don’t worry – a humanoid assistant will be ready to assist.
3. For your comfort and safety, grip the padded shoulder vest with your hands, and do not raise your feet during the ride.
This has all happened before. This will all happen again.

The Raider is unlike any other. The invertions are smoother and faster than ever before and the Vipers do not stand a chance. Are you alive yet?
Wish I had the chance to ride it!
I went to USS just a few weeks ago as I had lost hope of BSG opening in “Early 2015” and as the staff had no idea of its reopening date, and I didn’t want to miss USS before leaving Singapore.
Would’ve loved this rollercoaster, but oh well.. maybe next time
Human ride is down again. Has been for a week. The Cylons have won!
