Unleash your emotions at the SKULLPANDA CAGE-UNCAGE Showcase Singapore at National Museum of Singapore, the highly anticipated international debut following its first run in Shanghai.
SKULLPANDA CAGE-UNCAGE Showcase Singapore
From 12 Dec 2025 to 22 Feb 2026, fans of SKULLPANDA (a POP MART character) can enjoy this unique immersive exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore (NMS). The showcase is designed to elevate the popular blindbox and figurine collectible series to a medium for art and storytelling.
Thanks to the NMS Team, I’m delighted to share with you the highlights of this showcase from the media preview, ahead of the public opening on 12 December 2025!
The SKULLPANDA character was created in 2018 by Chinese artist Xiong Miao as a version of herself that embraces all the uncertainties and questions of life. And now, in this exhibition, you are invited to contemplate the possibilities, and dilemmas, of choice through installations curated into six major themes.
The exhibition is spread across 2 galleries – most of the thematic zones are in the Stamford Gallery at Level 1, while the last zone, along with two major installations, are in the Gallery Theatre in the Basement level.
Xiong Miao joined the media preview via a video message. She introduced the concept of the exhibition, highlighting that the duality of “caged” and “uncaged” reflects the conflicting inner thoughts of SKULLPANDA.

Photo Tour: The SKULLPANDA CAGE-UNCAGE Showcase Singapore Experience
The CAGE-UNCAGE experience can start as soon as you arrive at the National Museum of Singapore, where an installation can be found at the Front Lawn.
Once you step inside the Museum building, you can find the iconic Rotunda decorated with SKULLPANDA-themed overlays. This also showcases the showcase’s unique SKULLPANDA logo, which has a keyhole in the middle.
Your real journey starts from the Stamford Gallery, where you begin your search with SKULLPANDA for The Key.
Gazing through a glowing keyhole, you realise that it awaits not just a singular key, but infinite ones – unlocking multiple realities.
You can seek the key that resonates with you.
It unlocks the next area, Emotion. A pair of SKULLPANDA’s iconic helmets float in the air, with an entangled connection. Each casts a shadow below, highlighting the connected artefacts of a keyhole and key. It also reveals the hidden differences between what we see and what is real, representing the tangled threads of our emotional lives.
Several exquisite figurines are on display throughout the exhibition.
Direction explores what freedom means to different people. The main highlight is a giant book, with glass pages that feature drawings of thorns, chains, and spiderwebs – creating a feeling of being trapped.
As you turn the pages, these symbols overlap, cast shadows, and visually change the composite – showing many paths that can lock up emotions, or lead to freedom.
At the corner of this room, sit down and gaze upon a large wooden mirror, where animated butterflies complete the experience.
Think about wealth in the Fortune chamber, which is glistening with sparkling crystals and mirrored surfaces.
SKULLPANDA retreats inside a broken case. The dazzling reflections in the room show that wealth can be both beautiful and dangerous.
The Rules section feature a spinning top that rolls perpetually, and a balance scale that can be left unbalanced – to explore the concepts of time and gravity.
These objects represent how we relate to rules: The spinning top never stops rolling – even though it feels like it might stop anytime. The scale is imperfectly still, but easily tipped. Order can be fragile but always seeks a new balance through movement as time passes.
This is also where you can see a delicate figurine of SKULLPANDA holding a key.
The Life section is just next to the Rules. Over here, two spheres filled with sand flows continuously, while sculpted fish and birds float from within. The pair of globes symbolise how life unfolds in the passage of time.
And from here, you can continue your experience at the Gallery Theatre in the basement.
In this darkened gallery, Exploration highlights our curiosity through an interactive set of rotating blocks housed inside a cage. Here you can turn and rearrange the blocks, revealing new perspectives as you play.
And that unlocks The Room, the centerpiece installation that connects all the themes. Walk around this round chamber, with two SKULLPANDA sculptures seated back-to-back, each holding a key. The windows are lined with one-way mirror, creating a nearly infinite maze of reflections at some angles. I almost walked into a wall.
The mirrors create a feeling of momentarily trapped within The Room, while observers walking by outside would only see a small chamber. It is also one of the most popular installations, being the largest!
As you walk outside The Room, you can also see the Singapore-exclusive Installation, which celebrates the traditional bird singing pastime popular in local housing estates.
Suspended bird cages hold original prototype figurines from the SKULLPANDA The Paradox Series. Accompanying the work is a video by Xiong Miao, where her signature butterfly flies past familiar Singapore landmarks, revealing keyholes and keys in the city.
And now comes the exciting part – The SKULLPANDA CAGE-UNCAGE Pop-Up Store!
