Singapore Night Festival 2025: Island Nights

Singapore Night Festival 2025 will take place from 22 August to 6 September 2025. This marks the first year that Night Fest is led by HeritageSG, a subsidiary of the National Heritage Board (NHB) that reimagines heritage programmes into creative, modern experiences. That sounds like a next-gen NHB to me.

At the Night Festival’s Media Conference, I had the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming programmes from the festival team, artists, and partners.

This year’s theme, Island Nights, will dive into Singapore’s identity as an island nation – aptly in the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s independence. Beyond a curated line-up that reflects Singapore’s heritage and creative hub through artistic expression and new immersive experiences, the festival will also introduce new partnerships to further deepen appreciation for Singapore’s island heritage.

Two Highlight Experiences

You can explore two highlight experiences this year, starting with Kampong Chill (Yok & Sheryo) that will be built at Capitol Singapore. Here, an idyllic pavilion optimised for relaxation will challenge you to break down “busy-ness” into laziness, as you settle into “island time”.

Artists Yok and Sheryo shared some of the activities that will be held there, including spaces to sit down and embrace the slowness, and alarm clock-shaped candles that you can light to literally – burn time.

Over at Cathay Green, gigantic inflatable arches form the dazzling Sky Castle (ENESS Studio), which is going to be one of the festival’s Instagrammable hotspots. As an interactive sound and light installation, you will get to shape your own colourful and melodic experience with other visitors. Unlike the other projection mapping and art installation, entry to Sky Castle requires a fee, and S$5 per person, per entry.

Get tickets to Sky Castle from Klook, the official ticketing partner.

This year, the National Museum of Singapore rejoins Singapore Night Festival, now that renovation works at the facade are complete! You’ll get to marvel at MOSAIC (Jérémie Bellot, Ena Eno and Josselin Fouché) as you embark on an epic journey through time and space, with cultural design elements, such as Kebaya and Batik prints, woven into the visual tapestry.

Four other artists will showcase their projection mapping works at CHIJMES, as part of the Night Festival’s Projection Mapping Masterclass programme.

At the media conference, I got a chance to hear from artist Adeline Kueh about her piece, Roadside beauties and healing remedies which highlights the creation of cooling remedies using common roadside flowers and herbs – something much needed to keep us all cool on our sunny island.

New Night Lights – Art Installations around the precinct

There are six installations by local and regional artists for Singapore Night Festival 2025. This year, the Night Lights will be installed at Armenian Street, Bugis+, Funan, the National Design Centre, Plaza Singapura, and Raffles City Singapore.

Some of the artists shared stories behind their work at the SNF media conference:

Yang Derong’s CYBERSWORDFISH V2.0: From Myth to Megabytes will feature a gigantic swordfish sculpture with distinctive cyberpunk aesthetics. Constructed out of e-waste that he discovered, his artwork reflects on the rise of AI and accelerated consumption, leading to relentless production of waste. Now, these forces have taken form into invasive swordfishes, a twist on the folktale on the creation of Singapore’s Redhill.
