Thanks to Resorts World Sentosa, I had the chance to attend the first night of this durian fest. It felt like a vibrant night market, with a constant buzz of excitement around the long tables packed with freshly opened durians. Check out this reel for the vibes:
Servers expertly kept the supply flowing, ensuring everyone got their fill and even guiding guests through the different varieties.
Apart from the iconic Mao Shan Wang (Musang King), other popular varieties, such as D24, Jin Feng (Golden Phoenix), Ang Kar (Red Prawn), and Butter were available throughout the evening. Do note that the selection varies with seasonal availability, offering the exciting possibility of discovering some uncommon kinds of durians during your feast, such as the Tupai King (Squirrel King).
Beyond durians as the main attraction, separate buffet lines offer delectable hot dishes from Dian Xiao Er, including roast duck. To balance the richness of the durians, guests can enjoy other fresh tropical fruits like rambutan and mangosteen.
Refreshing beverages such as freshly cut coconuts, and traditional 三脚标清热水 (Three Legs Cooling Water) which can help cool down the “heatiness” of consuming durians. I just wished there was more “cooling” fruits to cleanse off the rich, creaminess of Mao Shan Wang, but ultimately, the real focus for most attendees is to fully immerse themselves in the abundant durian offerings.
As someone who typically enjoys durian flesh already extracted from the husk (and packed separately), consuming it fresh from the shell at the festival was a novel experience for me. Thoughtful touches, like servers circulating to help extract every last morsel from the shells, along with readily available gloves and discreet bins, contribute to a delightful durian-eating experience. With a focused 90-minute durian fever, it’s all about enjoying as much as you can – it’s a lot less time than you think.
As a charming memento of the evening, every guest goes home with an adorable Dian Xiao Er durian duck plushie.
Although the durians are unlimited, there is limited capacity at The Bay Restaurant. Durian lovers are advised to secure the ticket early to enjoy this curated experience that celebrates Singapore’s love for the King of Fruits.
Entry to this 90-minute event is conveniently located via the Equarius Hotel lobby, with a complimentary shuttle service provided from Hotel Michael. That’s a short walk from WEAVE and Universal Studios Singapore.
