Rainforest Wild Asia Review
(Based on the preview)
Perhaps one way to describe this park: It’s like you are like a main character on a quest to explore the park – in whichever way of your choosing, while spotting animals along your adventure. Expecting to view the same animals along a route is never promised, but that just adds on another layer to the experience, especially with flexible habitats that switch animals at various times of the day.
Designed with adventure in mind, this park involves lots of walking, and trekking on uneven terrain if you prefer. Your stamina will also be tested as it’s not always convenient or straightforward to get from point to point, as compared to an “easy” park like Bird Paradise. Although open-air rest points are scatted throughout the park, most of the paths are not sheltered from the sweltering heat, except for the rugged treks which have natural green cover.
With a list of add-on adventure activities, from simple short ones to extended 3-hour “missions”, Rainforest Wild Asia is indeed a unique and compelling offering for those in seek of an adventurous journey, all within Mandai’s curated environments.
Tips: Wear waterproof sunscreen. Bring your own water bottle to refill. Switch between paths as you explore.
Rainforest Wild Asia – Highlights and Photo Tour
Your journey at Rainforest Wild ASIA starts off dramatic, as you pass through steep rocky walls of the Entrance Gorge, arriving at the forest’s edge. Gigantic terrapins swim about in the habitat pond, gathering near gentle shade.
Two paths forward to The Karsts: An elevated walkway – sheltered and gentle. Or a Log Crossing Trek.
Of course, being an adventure park, you’ll want to give the trek a try.
You carefully cross ponds on stepping stones…
Stream on fallen logs…
And venture further into the forest…
At least, you’ve arrived at The Karsts, an open-concept habitat with jagged limestone formations.
It’s now home to the François’ langur, that scale the terrain within.
The rugged choice offers more exciting options to walk around the habitat, such as through rope bridges.
But the truly bold can take up the Black Adventure experience here. Known as the Wild Apex Adventure, you will move along the via ferrate path, scaling the rock formations. This is a 3-hour guided, harnessed tour option.
Apart from an aerial adventure at The Karsts (which involves a lot of climbing, and a control descent at the end), the journey continues at The Canopy, another area in the park.
There is also a third option, that is, through the gentle walkways. You’ll also end up with an expansive view of the habitat.
Rest for a moment at the Outpost, which offers camping ground for the park’s special activities, along with the Rangers Cafe:
Descend towards the Forest Floor, where you can navigate around boulders and fallen trees, or explore the roots of the rainforest.
Or, stay above the floor and you may find wildlife sharing the walkway.
The paths around Rainforest Wild splits at numerous points, offering you the option to move between rugged and leisurely pathways where offered. Some paths are straightforward, but longer; while the adventurous route may require less time, but more energy.
On the rugged paths, these bright orange ribbons help keep you on the right track.
At one point, you find yourself on a hill that overlooks the Entrance Gorge.
Turning back into the forest, you emerge into the Rock Cascade, an area that brings you through different kinds of landscapes as you traverse.
From dense groves where Red Dholes hide in the shadows, to majestic rocky formations reigned by the Malayan Tiger.
Explore further and you can find different vantage points, some offering a special view of the tigers.
The other landscaping of the cascades are quite amazing to look at.
The Canopy area was not open for the preview, but the zone will offer a view into wildlife at the treetops, including hanging walking nets. Some of the suspended bridges outside this area were open, such as this Burma bridge.
Also available at Rainforest Wild ASIA are Adventure+ activities, short “side quests” add-ons that offer an exciting detour during your day at the park. For all of these activities, there are minimum height and/or weight requirements, plus additional requirements for safety, such as proper footwear. For more information, refer to this page.
Perhaps the most prominent one is the towering Canopy Jump, which offers stunning views of the park from the top.
You can choose to step off a 20m or 13 platform, and experience a short rush of free fall, before controlled descent. This is priced at S$30 and includes a souvenir photo.
The next area, the Watering Hole is the largest zone in the park. The rugged route offers an exciting walkthrough on boulders and logs, plus the opportunity to see some animals, such as the Malayan sun bear, Malayn tapir, up close.
At the end of the forest lies a Crocodile pond, which you will be able to cross a few suspended bridges and get a closer look at the exhibits.
Another Adventure+ activity around here is the AIA Vitality Bounce, a series of sky bouncing nets in the treetops. After you flip and jump (safely) under the forest canopy, you can also go down a 9m slide. Each Bounce session lasts about 20 minutes and is priced at S$15.
The elevated pathway slowly descends to the ground, bringing you to the finale of your rainforest adventure: The Cavern.
Over here, another Black Adventure experience is offered, the Wild Cavern Adventure. Unlike the other, here you will embark on a simulated cave expedition, which includes abseiling in the dark and navigating through narrow tunnels.
But if you prefer something shorter, perhaps the Critter Crawl activity would be better. You will explore a small 60m cave and get up close to some exhibits, like hissing cockroaches, through glass panels. This activity may be more suitable for children and is priced at S$20, inclusive of a souvenir photo.
Whether you take the Critter Crawl or not, the path forward is through the main cavern. Here you may discover a secret animal sculpted among the formations.
The caverns, which is a 220m-long journey, is inspired by real-world cave systems, namely the Mulu Caves in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Main walkways offer breathtaking views of the rock formations, while the side paths bring you closer to some cave species – from snakes to scorpions.
End your journey in the Oculus, an iconic photo spot in the park.
From here, you can dine in the Cavern Restaurant, Singapore’s first and only restaurant in a cave setting. The restaurant is also accessible without a park ticket to Rainforest Wild ASIA.
Otherwise, you could also convert your adventure into a shopping one at the Rainforest Wild Shop. Here is also where you can review photos taken by park photographers – and save those precious memories.
Thanks for following the extended Grand Photo Tour. Rainforest Wild Asia will officially open on 12 March 2025 with more zones and exhibits than shown in this sneak preview article.
Mandai is also working on its sixth park, Rainforest Wild Africa, which will bring us to environments inspired by the diverse landscapes of the Afro-Tropical region and Madagascar. An opening date for this future attraction has yet to be announced.
