Get ready to scream at Haw Ror Villa 3, Haw Par Villa’s 2024 Halloween event! Check out the highlights in this article.
Haw Ror Villa 3 at Haw Par Villa
Haw Par Villa is one of Singapore’s original theme parks, and it first opened back in the 1930s as Tiger Balm Gardens. Over 80 years later, the park is still there, after countless changes and revitalisation efforts that shaped its contemporary form today. One can find it can either be amusing or unnerving. And now, during Halloween, the scare factor is further amplified with the Haw Ror Villa event, which promises a hair-raising night out at the park with engaging attractions such as an escape room (in Hell’s Museum), a ghostly tour through the park grounds, and a bazaar with a deathly theme.
The park typically closes at 8PM daily, but during the Haw Ror Villa Halloween event, you can actually stay up till midnight (if you dare).

Sneak Preview Photo Tour: Haw Ror Villa 3 at Haw Par Villa
This year’s event features attractions in 3 zones for you to embrace the haw-ror within. History and cultural heritage are woven into the content for these attractions, promising a rich experience that goes beyond the screams.
Note: These photos from the media preview do not represent the full range of ‘spirits’ that will roam at Haw Ror Villa 3 and the scare zones’ fully spooked-up appearance.
Escape The Judges’ Wrath
If walking around Hell’s Museum isn’t scary enough, then you can test your mettle at the Hell’s Museum Escape Room, which includes the famous Ten Courts of Hell transformed into a scare zone.
The story goes: You have been brought to Hell to be judged by mistake, and the real sinner is on the loose. Can you redeem yourself and escape the wrath of the Judges of Hell?
To do so, you are tasked to solve riddles across three zones of Hell’s Museum, including the Exhibition gallery and Ten Courts of Hell.
Be warned – during this experience, there will be spirits lurking to haunt you along the way.
The Ten Courts of Hell is perhaps the most intense area at the event. It’s very dark, with almost all of its original lights switched off and replaced with eerie candles.
Get ready to scream louder inside ‘Hell’, and when you survive this ordeal, you will get another clue for your 45-minute Escape Room adventure.
Surviving the Ten Courts of Hell doesn’t mean you’ve truly escaped from the judges, as more spirits and clues are to be found in the sculpture gardens area afterwards.
This can get quite intense, because the exhibits in Hell’s Museum are already unnerving despite being in rather clean and well-lit spaces. Then you have to wander out to Haw Par Villa’s signature attraction and the garden filled with creepy sculptures… all while trying to solve puzzles.
The Villa Has Eyes
Go on a spine-chilling Interactive Ghostly Guided Tour as you explore the grounds and uncover the mystery behind a murder that happened several decades ago.
Guided by a lead detective, you will learn about the rich history of Haw Par Villa and significant people involved. But what’s happening here is another murder mystery (which is a fictitious case, don’t worry) presented in an interactive theatre format.
Through clues scattered around the grounds and interactions with the spirits that were summoned on the anniversary of the murder, you have to listen carefully to what the 4 suspects have to say in order to uncover the truth.
Could it be the Gardener, the Cleaner, the Driver, or the Mistress?
Listen closely to what they all have to say about their potential motives, and their account of events leading to the murder, then work out your final answer by the end of the tour.
I expected the spirits to be just scare actors “disturbing” the tour, but it turned out to be an interactive theatre experience, which is a surprise. There are even scenes set up around Haw Par Villa to re-enact portions of the story.
The Shaman’s Bazaar
Get some respite from the scares at the Shaman’s Bazaar, which features an eclectic mix of vendors peddling devilish bites and drinks, magical wares and mysterious services.
During the media preview, I got a sneak peek of a few experiences that would happen here.
The most unusual: Rebirthing Experience Room, where you can lie inside in a real coffin and close its lid. This is inspired by rituals in Thailand to cleanse off bad karma, and the living funeral services in South Korea.
For this activity, the park has worked with partners to provide eco coffins that are made from cardboard.
This experience is separately charged at S$5 per entry. You can rest in the coffin as long as you wish. Some people lasted a few minutes within, while others couldn’t even have the lid closed.
Apart from shopping and dining at the bazaar, other highlights to look forward to include a storyteller Generative AI developed by the National Library Board that can create horror tales, and an exhibition that goes deep into the Hungry Ghosts festival and the traditions of crafting and burning paper offerings.
