Check out the highlights of RWS Street Eats 2018, held from 9 to 19 August 2018 at Resorts World Sentosa’s Malaysian Food Street.
With 29 stalls curated this year, foodies will be enthralled by a scrumptious ensemble of hawker delights from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Roti Takes Flight
Opening the event this year with much spectacle (but not overly dramatic as last year’s showdown), was the Flying Roti Canai by Chef Zainal Abidin and Chef Mohd Fairus from Malaysia.
Something like pizza dough tossing theatrics, but the roti canai dough is far thinner.
Chef Zainal also managed to fling the roti canai over a great distance.
Chef Steven Long returns
Top Chef Vietnam 2014 finalist, Chef Steven Long, gave a cooking demonstration of his signature Vietnamese Summer Roll. He battled Chef Benjamin Halat in last year’s showdown event.
Wrapped in rice paper, the summer rolls (known as Gỏi cuốn in Vietnam) hold a refreshing mix of vegetables, rice vermicelli, prawn and pork slices.
These Vietnamese Summer Rolls are sold at the Ben Thanh Market stall at $6 for a set of 2 rolls.
Singapore Shiok Summer Rolls
Singapore food blogger Dr Leslie Tay (aka ieatishootipost) showcased the Singapore Shiok Summer Roll, a new dish he created after visiting Chef Steven Long in Vietnam to learn how to prepare the traditional rolls.
With strawberries (to give the roll a touch of red) paired with the white rice vermicelli – The Singapore Shiok Summer Roll resembles the Singapore flag, and is launched in celebration of Singapore’s 53rd Birthday.
And tucked inside the roll are a few slices of marinated pork belly.
Served with satay sauce, it’s a fun mash-up of local flavours – even Chef Steven Long approves.
And now, with the event open, you can too enjoy hawker delights!
Pork Star Bali’s balinese-style spicy pork with rice – Babi Sambal Matah ($10). And its neighbour is selling the Sempalit Curry Chicken Rice ($9)
Bann Phad Thai is back with three versions of their signature dish: Phad Thai with Crab Meat ($13), Phad Thai with Prawn ($13), Phad Thai with Chicken ($10)
Thai Boat Noodles ($10)
Support Dr Leslie Tay’s Shiok Singapore Summer Rolls ($6). Only 50 servings made per day!
Catch Flying Roti Canai in action – Available in sets of 2 pieces: Roti Canai with Cheese ($6), Roti Canai with Banana ($5), Roti Canai with Dhall ($4)
