Tulipmania at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay Flower Dome - Tulipmania

Gardens by the Bay presents the largest tulip show in Singapore, Tulipmania. The Gardens promises a colourful spectacle of 20,000 tulips flown directly from the Netherlands. Let’s take a walk around the Flower Dome.

The usual Flower Dome fields are adorned with vibrant tulips and other flowers for Tulipmania. I wanted to visit earlier as the tulips were already planted. However, the weekend was memorable for thunderous showers. I have also received word that the tulips have yet to bloom. So I went to the Flower Dome on Monday instead – it was bright and sunny.

Time (and weather) are important factors for photography at the Flower Dome. I prefer to visit during a sunny morning (it is bright and not too hot that the Roof Shades needs to be activated at the Flower Dome). Alternatively, during the afternoon if it’s not too sunny. Natural lighting is important for the colours to really pop and would not require any editing later on. At a certain hour (which I will keep secret for now!), sunlight would hit the Flower Field – illuminating the field of tulips, all bursting with intense colours.

I’ve seen some photos looking very drab and rather dull. Tulips are spring blooms, so the photos should exemplify that. Going to the Flower Dome at the right time and weather is paramount for photography.

The main highlight is at the lower level of the Flower Dome. Here are some photos of the displays around the Flower Field. Fun fact: The air temperature in the Flower Dome has been tuned lower than normal to accommodate the tulips (which are better suited for cooler climates).

Tulipmania at Gardens by the Bay is on display from now till 20 May 2013. Admission charges apply. Local residents can take advantage of discounted admission rates:

Adults – $10.00 per ticket
Senior Citizens and Children – $7.00 per ticket

*Take note that these rates are for one conservatory only. If you wish to visit both Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, it would make more sense to buy a ticket for both conservatories instead.

Very pretty just like Keukehof Gardens but in Singapore. It makes sense for Flower Dome to have these seasonal events to attract repeat visits from locals cos otherwise their permanent displays are just so so unlike Cloud Forest next door.

Now if only RWS will take a hint.

It seems that RWS is very satisfied with strong influx of regional tourists – for many, USS (and MLP) are their first theme parks. Seasonal entertainment at the park doesn’t appear necessary to them (and presumably, even the park management). It’s a shame really, because a lot of attractions would’ve benefited with a facelift, seasonal change or the bare minimum: some improvement and refurbishment.

I’m running out of content to write about in my monthly updates that well, I might need to use an idea I had in mind a while ago (Covering “Wear and Tear” and Airing of Grievances) for park updates in later months.

Hi Dejiki! I am a tourist and planning to visit Gardens by the bay. How much time do I need to visit and go around the whole place? (Without having to rush, ofcourse). Is 4 hours enough? Is the place that big?

Thank you so much and more power to your blog!:)

      Hi Jay,

4 hours is more than enough. The two domes will take about 1 to 2 hours to walk through. The outdoor gardens should take a little more than an hour.
